Youtube, Incognito mode arrives to protect users

YouTube is testing a feature for anonymous browsing of videos within its platform, here’s how to use it to protect our privacy

YouTube is testing a new feature to protect the privacy of its users. In the future we will be able to watch videos on the platform by browsing in incognito mode. At the moment the tests have been carried out only on Android devices but the feature could be released for everyone.

YouTube in Incognito mode is not really new. Several times the developers of the video streaming platform have tried to include anonymous browsing among the service’s options. But the one carried out on some Android devices is the first ever release, albeit in beta phase, of the function to protect the privacy of users. It must be said that for the moment the results have not been very positive and barring unforeseen events we should not expect the release of Incognito mode in the very short term.

How does YouTube incognito work

How will we use anonymous browsing on YouTube? Simple, next to the search bar, at the top of the site’s home page, we’ll find the small glasses-with-hair icon, the same one also present on Google Chrome web browser. To start surfing anonymously we’ll just have to click on that icon. In this way all the searches made will not be saved. But remember that our Network operator will still receive all the information about our browsing even if we use the incognito mode.

In fact already now YouTube users can choose to browse incognito: we can avoid showing the videos we see in our personal history simply by logging out of our YouTube account. It’s surely a more inconvenient and less effective alternative to protect our privacy on Youtube but while waiting Incognito mode is released it’s a great alternative.
