The latest rumors about Xiaomi talk about a review of the foldable launched in early 2021. Objective? To annoy Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3
The segment of foldable smartphones inaugurated a few years ago by Samsung and Huawei is heading towards a golden age, driven by the degree of maturity of the proposals that are now appearing on the markets – more solid than in the past – and prices that, thanks to economies of scale, are settling on more “human” levels.
Xiaomi launched itself on the new advances at the beginning of this year, precisely in March, when it officially launched its first ever foldable, Mi Mix Fold. A product that has fascinated many fans but that, for reasons unknown, has never arrived in our parts. Xiaomi, however, invigorated by the excellent commercial results of the last period, would have in the pipeline the successor, which will not be called Mix Fold 2 because it will not be a completely new product but a careful review of the existing project. And who knows, maybe this could be the right time for Xiaomi to make its foldable available outside the Chinese borders as well.
What to expect from the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold successor
According to rumors coming from China, the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold successor will have updates in several crucial aspects for a modern product.
First and foremost, a significant increase in the refresh rate of the displays is expected: the internal screen would go to 90 Hz from the current 60 Hz, the external one from 90 Hz to 120 Hz, and the difference during use, especially on such large panels (8 inches the internal one, 6.52 inches the other) could not be negligible.
The flexible OLED panel inside could host a significant novelty, namely the camera under the screen, on which Xiaomi already has experience with the Mix 4. The first, more important, is that the current Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold does not have a camera that allows video calling using the internal display. The second, on the side, is that in a device that smacks of the future as a foldable, the presence of a camera under the display would increase this feeling.
Finally, two new features for battery and fast charging. The first would go from the current 5,020 mAh to 5,000 mAh, but at the same time the fast charging would be enhanced to 120 watts from the current 67 W.
The “game” of availability
Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold, as is known, has never arrived in Europe (and if that’s the case not even in the U.S.). However, the changes predicted now by the rumors suggest that Xiaomi has approached the revision with the intention of providing customers with a more credible alternative to the product that dominates the market, namely Galaxy Z Fold3.
It is possible that Xiaomi realized in March that with Mi Mix Fold would not be able to attack the foldable of Samsung, so perhaps it may have decided to avoid the logistical and marketing costs of a foreign marketing to support them then at the appropriate time.
Reading the rumor anticipations, the successor of Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold could be a more formidable opponent for Galaxy Z Fold3, and as a result the Beijing-based company might consider making it available in international markets as well. Who knows. After all, it doesn’t cost anything to hope.
