Xiaomi launches the Mi Band 5, an activity tracker with a low-cost price and very interesting features, starting with the price of less than 30 euros
Xiaomi returns to the spotlight. With a surprise announcement, the company has confirmed the imminent launch of the Mi Band 5. The fitness tracker is one of the biggest successes of the Chinese company, thanks to the excellent quality/price ratio, so much so that the previous model was considered by many as one of the best budget fitness trackers.
The new Xiaomi Mi Band 5 will be an evolution of the previous model with some very interesting innovations regarding two features in particular: the screen and NFC technology. The Mi Band 5 will have the largest screen ever: 1.2 inches. The larger size is due to the great work of optimization done by the Chinese company on the design front. The NFC technology, however, makes the smart band very useful for digital payments: just bring it close to the POS to pay without having to pull out your wallet. Xiaomi Mi Band 5: what’s new
It was the same Xiaomi to announce the news with a post published on the social network Weibo. The official launch is expected on April 3, obviously with a live streaming event. According to recent rumors, the Mi Band 5 could be equipped with a 1.2-inch AMOLED display, a color screen and larger than that of the previous model.
It would seem confirmed also the global support to NFC technology, functionality that in the previous series was compatible only with the Chinese market. Important innovation that will make it possible to use Xiaomi’s smartband also with Google Pay and MiPay payment systems. But the new Xiaomi Mi Band 5 could be just the tip of the iceberg. According to the usual well-informed, Xiaomi should also present other wearables.
Xiaomi: price and release date
No changes on the horizon. The price, the real strength of the smart bracelet of the Chinese brand, should stand, according to the latest revelations, around 179 yuan which is equivalent, at current exchange rate, to about 23 euros. A price that, if confirmed, would be well below 30 euros with a quality / price ratio that will be the real plus feature of the device.
As for the release date the Chinese company has not yet declared anything about it, we must wait for the event tomorrow, but it is assumed that the new Xiaomi Mi Band 5 will definitely be available from next June.
