Why you can no longer see Disney Channel and Disney Junior on Sky from May 1

Disney Channel and Disney Junior are no longer part of Sky’s schedule from May 1. Here are the reasons for the decision

Since May 1, 2020 Disney Channel and Disney Junior are no longer available on the Sky schedule. But this is certainly not a surprise: they were at least a couple of months that was rumored to abandon the two channels from the programming of Sky. This is an important abandonment for the satellite platform that loses two of the most watched channels by children (Disney Junior) and adolescents (Disney Channel). For the moment there are no plans to replace the two channels.

Those who try to access the two channels will find in their place a message warning of the closure from May 1, 2020. In a few days they will be permanently removed from Sky’s numbering. For many it seemed like a bolt out of the blue, but in reality the choice by Disney is quite logical: with the arrival in Italy of Disney+ it was unnatural to broadcast the same content on satellite. In this way, those who want to continue to see movies, TV series and cartoons produced by Disney will have to make a subscription to Disney +.

Disney Channel and Disney Junior: farewell to Sky

A painful farewell, but necessary. Pulling the plug on Disney Channel and Disney Junior was not Sky, but Disney. There was no discussion on the renewal of the contract for the sale of TV rights, simply Disney preferred to close the two channels on the satellite platform. The decision comes after the launch in Italy of Disney +, the on-demand platform available for PCs, smartphones and smart TVs.

How to continue watching Disney movies and cartoons

A solution to continue watching Disney movies and cartoons exists, but it is not cheap: subscribe to Disney+. In fact, most of the content broadcast by Disney Junior and Disney Channel is available on the new on-demand platform that made its debut in Italy on March 24, 2020.
