Why the iPhone in Italy costs more and where it pays to buy it

The price of the iPhone in Italy is higher than (almost) all other European Union countries. The fault, so to speak, is not Apple’s

This year, too, Italian users have brought home an Apple “trophy” of which they are not particularly proud. And, of course, not to their demerit. As we have already seen in previous years, the list price of the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max in our country is the highest in the world.

The countries that surpass us in this particular ranking can be counted on the fingers of one hand and it makes little difference whether you decide to buy the iPhone 11 at the Apple Store or with the offers of operators. The price iPhone 11, in fact, does not change: the only one to make a discount (a few tens of euros compared to the price charged by the house of Cupertino) is Iliad, whether you decide to pay in one lump sum or you choose the installment of the cost. Why does the iPhone 11 cost more in our country? Fiscal reasons, of course.

Why the iPhone costs more in Italy

If you’re trying to understand why Apple devices are more expensive than in almost all EU countries (but also in the rest of the world), just look at the level of taxation applied to electronic devices. VAT, for example, is applied at 22%, which is higher than the value added tax in other countries. In addition, our tax system provides for a tax on external storage media (such as hard drives, CDs and DVDs, USB flash drives) that increases as the capacity of the media increases. The larger the size of the memory of the iPhone (and other smartphones, of course), the higher the tax.

Where to buy the iPhone 11

If you’re looking to buy an iPhone 11 with the discount, you won’t have to travel many miles. It will be enough to cross the border with France to save 30 euros on the list price (839 in Italy, 809 in France). Arriving in Austria or Germany, however, will save another 10 euros, with a list price of 799 euros in both countries. The price of the iPhone 11 in Spain is the same as in France, while in the United Kingdom, thanks to a weak pound, the price is 820 euros.

To save a lot on the price of the iPhone 11 you will be forced to a long intercontinental trip. In Japan the price is 74,800 yen, about 635 euros at today’s exchange rate; in China the price is 5,499 yuan, just over 700 euros. Moving to the other side of the world the situation does not change: in the United States the price of the iPhone 11 64 gigabytes is $699, about 640 euros. In Canada, however, the price is much higher: 979 Canadian dollars, equivalent to 894 euros.
