Apple will make a foldable iPhone, but it’s still unclear when. Two of the most influential voices on the web have a date in mind, but it remains to be understood how it will be
Some will certainly be surprised that Apple has not yet thrown itself into the fray of foldable smartphones, but those who know well the habits of the Cupertino company knows that in those parts you do not launch on a segment that is still cutting edge without the certainty of having in their hands a product valid in every respect.
First Samsung and then Huawei put themselves to the test within a year of the presentation of Royole Flexpai, the first foldable smartphone in history, while the Apple of recent years is less impulsive. It prefers to wait, to send others ahead, and then throw itself into the competition when technologies are mature, that is, when it is sure to bring out a product that can compete at the highest levels without major criticalities. So for the foldable iPhone – that many would like to see soon on the market – we will have to wait.
Foldable iPhone not before 2023
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, perhaps the best-known Apple insider in the world, recently declared that the foldable iPhone will not arrive on the market before 2023. If that’s the case, you’ll have to be patient for the next two years at least, but you’ll be rewarded with a flexible display with QHD+ resolution and an 8-inch diagonal.
Recently Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has also spoken out on the subject, according to which a lot of patience is still needed before having concrete information on the foldable iPhone. The journalist is definitely more vague than Kuo on the possible specifications, and also on the possible timing of arrival on the market.
“Basically I think Apple will make a foldable iPhone, but it will take at least two or three years. In my opinion, and I think I speak on behalf of many others, an iPhone with a 7 or 8 inch flexible screen would be ideal,” said Gurman.
It’s clear that unlike Kuo, Gurman has less detailed information on a project that, of course, if it is planned so far in time, there are still several steps before it can be considered minimally concrete.
Gurman has his say on the diagonal of the foldable iPhone display, while Kuo launched a real prediction, adding moreover that the first prototypes of the foldable iPhone would already be in the hands of Apple.
Apple would already have the prototype of the foldable iPhone
In short, the information is quite fragmented and probably will take several months to begin to flow the first hypotheses and more generally indiscretions in such a number to get an idea.
At any rate it is clear that Apple is seriously working on the project, because the patents filed and approved with the Apple logo stamped on it certainly do not lack. The ideas are there, you need to make a square around what you want to bring to market, and Apple is historically very good at starting from the idea of experience that you want to bring into the hands of customers and then get to the design, understood as aesthetics and hardware needed.
