WhatsApp releases advanced search for all Android users subscribed to the beta version: here’s how it works and how to activate it
The WhatsApp advanced search is finally available for all Android users, at least for those who are subscribed to the beta program. The news comes directly from the Twitter account of WaBetaInfo that announces the release of the feature for all users who update WhatsApp beta for Android to the latest available version. The release had already begun in previous weeks, but initially the developers had made the feature available only to a rather limited number of users. Now, however, it is coming to the smartphones of all Android users.
On the advanced search WhatsApp has spent a lot of time and the technicians consider the tool very important to make the application even easier to use. So far, in fact, WhatsApp’s search function is rather limiting: it doesn’t allow you to select exactly the type of content you want to find. Slowing down the search and not allowing the user to easily find an image, document or video within a conversation. To get the advanced search you need to update WhatsApp for Android to at least version 2.20.198.7.
What is advanced search on WhatsApp
Advanced search is a new tool that replaces the one already present within WhatsApp. At the moment, anyone who wants to search for something on the messaging app has to press on the magnifying glass icon on the home screen and type the name of a photo, or some phrase exchanged with a friend.
With the new advanced search, when a user presses on the magnifying glass a small menu appears with very specific tags: Photos, Videos, Links, Gif, Audio and Documents. By selecting one of the tags and entering the name of the content you’re looking for, WhatsApp will offer much more precise results.
It may seem like a useless feature, but in fact on the one hand it simplifies the life of users and on the other hand it enhances a fundamental tool for the daily management of WhatsApp.
How to activate the new feature
For the moment, advanced search is being released for all users who are subscribed to the Android beta program for WhatsApp and who have at least version 2.20.198.8 of the app installed. For those, however, who do not have the beta version of the app, they have to wait a little longer: if the tests are successful, the feature will soon arrive on the official version of WhatApp as well.
