WhatsApp, QR codes arrive to chat with companies: how it works

Start a chat with the customer thanks to the QR Code and share the catalog via links: these are the two new features for those who have a WhatsApp Business profile

The health emergency has caused several damages to society: not only people have been forced into isolation, but many companies have had to close suddenly, some have reduced production or cut off relations with customers. However, now is the time to react and get back on track with all the tools and resources available, including WhatsApp Business.

Now more than ever there is a need to reopen and take care of customers with digital, fast and reliable services. With this in mind, digital platforms are striving to offer businesses and professionals targeted features and solutions. One of these is WhatsApp, which has developed a series of options designed to use the messaging app on a professional level. From its official website, the company has announced the arrival of two new features designed for those who have a business account: the QR Code and the sharing of the catalog with their contacts.

WhatsApp Business: how to start a chat with the QR Code

WhatsApp is not only the messaging app most used by individuals, but it also has a service dedicated specifically to businesses. It’s called WhatsApp Business and has about 50 million subscribers who can now initiate a chat via a QR Code.

This tool allows you to establish a link between two numbers and thus promotes immediate interactions. In fact, until now, to contact a company you needed to add the number to your address book and then send a message through the app. Now the procedure is much faster: just scan the QR Code displayed in a shop window, on a package or on the institutional website to get in touch with the company immediately.

After framing the code, a chat window opens immediately with a standard welcome message that can also be customized by the company. This is the input to start the conversation with your customers. Thanks to this feature, it is therefore possible to improve a company’s Customer Service and manage all conversations more easily. The QR Code has been available since July 9, 2020 for all businesses using the WhatsApp Business app or Api.

The QR Code will also be released shortly for non-business users. The purpose is the same: to allow you to exchange phone numbers quickly without having to go through the address book.

How to share the catalog on WhatsApp

The second new feature designed for businesses is the sharing of the catalog of products and services. This feature has existed for some time for all those who have a Business account, but until now it only allowed you to attach a product or the entire catalog in chat. Now an update of this feature is available.

In fact, WhatsApp catalogs can now be shared in the form of a link on Facebook, Instagram, on your own website or in any other channel used by the company. Of course, the link to the catalog can also be sent via chat. To share a catalog in a chat just open the conversation, tap the attachment icon and tap the item “Catalog” and finally tap send all the products or select one to share. After choosing just tap the “Send” item and you’re done. All the instructions for creating or sharing a catalog are published in WhatsApp’s guidelines.
