Night mode is coming to WhatsApp: the color chosen is a very dark blue. It can be activated from the account settings: here’s how it works
We’ve been talking about it for several months now, but we finally see the light at the end of the tunnel: the dark mode of WhatsApp is about to be released in the beta version, at least as far as Android is concerned. The happy news comes from the guys at WaBetaInfo, always very informed about the latest news concerning the messaging application. In the latest beta version available (the number 2.19.282) there are several pieces of information regarding the dark mode of WhatsApp: from the color that will be used up to the way to activate it on your account.
We start from the information that most interests users: the night mode of WhatsApp will not use black as the predominant color, but a very dark blue, as already done by Telegram and Huawei for EMUI 10. According to several studies, the blue tires the eyes less and makes it easier to read the words on the screen. As for activating the feature, you will be able to do it directly from your profile settings: a new section called “Theme” will be added between Account and Chat. Here’s how it works and how to activate night mode on WhatsApp.
How night mode works and what it changes for users on WhatsApp
Let’s start from the basics: dark mode is a feature that has now become a standard on operating systems (Android 10 and iOS 13 natively support it) and on major applications, and that allows you to change the theme by replacing light colors with black or blue. This should decrease battery consumption and make it less tiring to use the device at night. WhatsApp and in general all the apps of the Facebook family are the only ones that have not yet introduced the dark mode.
The operation of the dark mode of WhatsApp is very simple: once activated, white and green (the classic colors of WhatsApp) are replaced by a very dark blue, while all the writings are in gray. At the functionality level, the application will remain the same, the biggest change is at the aesthetic level.
How to activate dark mode on WhatsApp
The guys at WaBetaInfo have also explained how to activate WhatsApp’s night mode. Within the settings, a new “Theme” item has been added. Clicking it opens a window with three options: Light, Dark, Default Theme. The first two don’t need much explanation: with the Light theme the same colors remain as now, while selecting Dark switches to the new theme. By choosing Default Theme, WhatsApp will adapt to the operating system. If on Android 10 or iOS 13 we chose to adopt the dark theme, the same will happen on WhatsApp.
When dark mode arrives on WhatsApp
We need to be very clear: night mode is not yet available on WhatsApp, not even in the Android beta version. For the moment, only images have been unearthed within the source code of the application. This means that the developers are still working to harmonize all sections of WhatsApp and it will still take a few weeks to see the feature in the beta version.
For the release in the official version of WhatsApp it is impossible to make predictions. But we are unlikely to see it before the end of the year. Everything will depend on the success of the tests carried out in the beta version.
