WhatsApp groups, how to block group invitations

Being added to a WhatsApp group can become a real nightmare, especially if it consists of dozens of people who are constantly sending messages, images and videos. There is a solution to not receiving a notification every thirty seconds: mute the group. An alternative may be to exit the WhatsApp group, but some of our friends may be offended. The developers of the messaging application, however, are also working on a new feature that could solve once and for all this long-standing problem.

To reveal the solution are the guys at WaBetaInfo, always well informed about WhatsApp news. In the beta version for iOS they have found an option that can be activated within the Privacy Settings. The feature allows the user to decide whether to be added to a new group without any limit or to block the invitations received. The new feature is only available for iPhone users using the beta version of WhatsApp: if the tests are successful it will be added to the official version as well.

How to block invitations to WhatsApp groups

WaBetaInfo also explained how to activate the new feature. You need to go into WhatsApp Settings, press on Account, then on Privacy. In the new page that will open you must press on Groups and here there will be the option to decide whether to receive invitations to be added to new groups. The user will have three options: All, Contacts Only and None. If we leave the setting Everyone, any person will be able to add us to a WhatsApp group even if they do not have our contact. If we choose the Contacts Only setting, instead, only our friends will be able to add us to a WhatsApp group, but in this case we will receive a message from the application that will allow us to choose whether to accept or decline the invitation. The same will happen if we set None.

This new feature goes to improve the Privacy settings of WhatsApp. Developers are investing a lot of time on this aspect: it’s a few days ago the news that a new feature has been introduced on the iPhone that allows you to access WhatsApp only using facial recognition or fingerprint.
