What the Apple Watch for extreme sports will look like

In Cupertino, they would have liked to launch an Apple Watch for extreme sports as early as this year. Perhaps because of the pandemic, the launch would be postponed to 2022

Since the Apple Watch was presented in April 2015, the Apple smart watch has received aesthetic and functional updates every year, and the same will happen this year with a model that in all likelihood we will know as the Apple Watch Series 7.

Among the new features anticipated by rumors a faster chip than the current one, probably the Apple S7, improved connectivity and finally an overhaul to the display is expected. In 2022 there will be more than one novelty for the range: there will be the usual generational transition for the Apple Watch “main”, an update for the Apple Watch SE “economic”, and according to the latest rumors – bounced moreover by Bloomberg – even a new version intended for those who practice extreme sports. Apple was rumored to have tried to include a body temperature sensor in the Apple Watch Series 7, a decidedly useful feature in Covid-19 time, but the latest rumors indicate it’s more likely to be seen in the generation coming in 2022.

The Latest on Apple Watch Series 7

No body temperature sensor, then, in Apple Watch Series 7, and no blood glucose sensor either, which would have helped diabetics keep their blood glucose levels in check: rumors say it will take quite some time, perhaps years, to refine the totally non-invasive technology Apple intends to use.

Currently, in fact, blood glucose meters require you to prick your finger to get some blood out in order to get the most accurate result possible. It is said that Apple is aiming for a non-invasive solution, but it will take time to be refined.

There will instead be a more optimized display in terms of bezels: Apple Watch Series 7 will have a higher surface-to-display ratio than before, and also a new lamination technique that will allow the screen to be closer to the glass. Despite this, however, Bloomberg reports that the Apple smartwatch could be thicker, however imperceptibly for the user.

Another novelty concerns the use of ultra wide band (UWB) to spend the watch with Apple AirTag and to be able to unlock, among other things, the doors of a hotel room as shown by the company at WWDC21 during the announcement of watchOS 8.

Apple Watch for extreme sports in 2022

On the Apple Watch designed for those who practice extreme sports there is not much information available at the moment, also due to the fact that Apple spokespersons asked on the subject declined to comment, saying only that Apple’s plans are “fluid” and could therefore change with the passage of time.

However, rumors have already made known something about the Apple Watch for extreme sports. It’s described as an adventure or explorer version that was supposed to debut as early as this year, but probably the pandemic has made the plans change in the race and if Apple were to push on the project we won’t see it until next year.

The Apple Watch for extreme sports, or for athletes who want something more than what the “traditional” Apple Watch offers today, will allow Apple to compete on equal footing with specialized and well-established manufacturers of the caliber of Garmin or Polar.
