Vivo Apex, the first full-screen, bezel-less smartphone

The concept phone was previewed at Mobile World Congress 2018 and will make its official debut on March 5 at an event in China

Many smartphones unveiled so far at Mobile World Congress 2018. Samsung launched the new Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, while Nokia showed off five new devices. But stealing the show was the Vivo Apex, for the moment a concept phone (a prototype) but which very soon could make its debut on the market.

Why did the Vivo Apex cause such a stir? For the fact that the screen takes up almost 98% of the surface of the front. This means that the smartphone is “all screen”, without the presence of bezels. A smartphone that can be called revolutionary without fear of being denied. Vivo in recent months is the most active company in the world of smartphones: at CES 2018 made its debut the Vivo X20 Plus UD, the first phone with a fingerprint reader hidden in the screen. And now with the Vivo Apex it’s ready to take the entire industry a step further.

Features Vivo Apex

In addition to having never-before-seen features, the Vivo Apex will also have a top-of-the-line spec sheet. Underneath the 5.99-inch screen will be the Snapdragon 845 with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The display will support COF technology that is able to hide under the panel the environmental sensors, fingerprint detection, the earphone capsule and the speaker. As for the bezels: at the top is 1.8 millimeters thick, while the front 4.3 millimeters, but the company is working to reduce the thickness. In order for the screen to fully cover the front surface of the device, the Chinese company had to develop ad hoc solutions regarding the front camera and the ear capsule. For the ear capsule, Vivo decided to opt for a technology that uses the vibration of the screen to “transport” the sound. The front camera, on the other hand, has been hidden inside the smartphone and opens automatically as soon as you launch the Camera app.

The Vivo Apex is also characterized by being the first smartphone to have a sensor hidden under the screen that takes up a third of the screen. A further step forward from the smartphone seen in January at CES 2018.

When the Vivo Apex comes out

The smartphone’s production is expected to start in May and it will be unveiled by the end of June. To see it on the market, we will have to wait until July.
