Tovnet, the LED bulb with built-in camera

Developed by an American company, Tovnet performs two functions: it illuminates and controls the environment in which it is installed. Starting price: less than 100 euros

Of the many projects launched on Kickstarter, one of the main crowdfunding platforms, Tovnet is undoubtedly one of the most interesting. Above all if we consider its utility. On the surface, in fact, it looks like a simple LED bulb, but in reality it is much more.

The American company, based in New York, has developed a device that at the same time performs two functions: it illuminates and controls the environment in which it is installed. Tovnet, in fact, is equipped with a surveillance camera, which can be controlled through your smartphone. The smart bulb lends itself to be used to monitor, discreetly, the interior and exterior spaces of a building. There are many interesting features of this special security system. For example, Tovnet has a Wi-Fi connection. The device also integrates a motion sensor, which is used by the bulb to launch the alarm. And it has other very useful functions.

Tovnet: how it works

Integration with the smartphone (but also with other mobile and desktop devices) is one of the most important aspects, as it allows users to manage the device remotely. On the display of the device are reported in real time images taken. The dedicated application (available for Android, iOS) plays a decisive role. Tovnet has a bidirectional audio system. Using the application, in addition to listening to what is happening in the area under surveillance, it is also possible to send alarm sounds (thanks to the integrated speakers).

In addition, thanks to the microSD card slot, the footage can be archived. The data can be sent via Wi-Fi to the smartphone. Tovnet is very easy to install, just screw it in like a simple light bulb. The surveillance system works very well even during the night. And that’s not all. The quality of the images, in fact, is very good, also thanks to the field of vision, which reaches up to 120°.

Price and release date

The American company, which as seen has launched a fundraising campaign on Kickstarter, will begin delivering Tovnet first to backers, ie backers, from August 2017. Starting price 110 dollars (about 96 euros, according to the current exchange rate). Solution that has already sold-out.
