From about 18:30 the TIM mobile network has stopped working. The causes are still unknown, while the number of reports is growing by the minute
From 18:00 on July 9, TIM mobile users can no longer make calls or surf the web. TIM is down and, until now, no explanation has been given by the former state monopolist as to what might have happened. The fact is, however, that on social networks (such as Twitter) and on industry portals (such as Downdetector) the reports are growing rather quickly.
In short, the problem exists and seems to be also quite serious, given the extent of the malfunction. According to data and reports collected by downdetector.it, in fact, TIM is not working in some areas of Italy, even if for the moment we cannot talk about a general down. All users complain about a real black-out of the mobile phone line (although there are also some reports about the fixed line of TIM). As mentioned, little is still known about the reasons: the operator has not yet made anything known, neither on the website nor through social channels, but it is very likely that technicians are already at work to solve it.
Why TIM is not working today
The reasons behind the malfunctioning of the TIM mobile network are currently unknown. Given the geographical extent, however, it is possible to imagine that there is some problem with the network infrastructure. In particular, it is possible to speculate that there has been a failure in some control unit that manages data traffic and cellular connectivity. Reading the comments on social networks and websites, the Tim down seems to have affected different Italian cities, as well as different problems. Some users can’t make phone calls, while the data network works perfectly, while in other cases both the phone network and the data network are absent.
