The second season of The Witcher is about to arrive on Netflix. Many anticipations have been released during the Lucca Comics & Games, one of the most prestigious Italian events dedicated to the world of comics and video games. The fantasy series is based on the bestselling saga of the same name written by Andrzej Sapkowski and revolves around the events of Geralt of Rivia.
The first season was released on Netflix in 2019 and the release of the second one has been awaited for almost two years now. Filming has been interrupted several times due to Covid, but finally the second chapter is about to see the light of day. During the Lucca event, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich made a surprise appearance, along with two cast members, Joey Batey (Jaskier) and Kim Bodnia (Vesemir), production designer Andrew Laws and costume designer Lucinda Wright. The group made many interesting statements for fans. The showrunner also talked about the future of the show.
The Witcher: thinking about the third season
While waiting for the second season, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich released some anticipations about the future of the TV series. The Witcher will have a third season, for the happiness of the many fans around the world.
The showrunner said that the writers are already in Los Angeles to talk about the project. She added that the plot will faithfully follow that of the literary saga and one book in particular. In the third season there will be a lot of action, but the audience will also have to say goodbye to some characters.
In the meantime, there is no shortage of statements about The Witcher 2. Viewers will meet a new version of Geralt, more calm and thoughtful. It will be different from the first chapter, where he was grumpy and very mysterious. This is what stated by actor Henry Cavill, who plays the protagonist.
The Witcher 2: the plot
In the second season, Geralt is now convinced that he has lost Yennefer forever. The witch is played by Anya Chalotra. As such, he takes Princess Cirilla (Freya Allan) to safety to protect her. The relationship between the two will be the focus of the second season.
Geralt will hide together with the princess inside Kaer Morhen, which is a fortress that characterized the protagonist’s childhood. Meanwhile, the King along with Elves, but also humans and demons of the Continent struggle for dominance outside the walls. But Geralt will be especially busy protecting the princess from a huge danger, namely a power that hides inside her.
There will be some new faces in the cast: Graham McTavish, actor, writer and producer already appeared in the series Lucifer and also Outlander will play the role of Dijkstra.
The priestess Nenneke will be played by Adjoa Andoh, an actress who appeared in Bridgerton as Lady Danbury.
When The Witcher 2 comes out
The second season of The Witcher will consist of eight episodes. It will be released starting Friday, December 17, 2021 in Italy and all other countries where the service is active.
