Fans of The Umbrella Academy can’t wait to watch the third season and Netflix, in the meantime, satisfies them by unveiling the main characters of the upcoming episodes.
The Umbrella Academy is ready to return on Netflix with a third season full of adrenaline and twists. The Sparrow Academy will play a central role in the plot, and for the occasion, the streaming platform has introduced subscribers to the seven new characters and the actors who will play them.
The Sparrow Academy appears at the end of season two, when the Hargreeves brothers return to the present after traveling through time and preventing the Apocalypse. In the last episode, they realize that they may have changed the story because on their way back home they find a sort of new academy composed of new superheroes. This is the Sparrow Academy, where we also find Ben, the Hargreeves brother who sacrificed his life in previous seasons, but in this universe is alive and well. This means that by traveling through time they have created a new parallel reality where their “alter egos” live.
The Umbrella Academy: the new characters
The Sparrow Academy is composed of seven members, just like the Umbrella Academy. Each member has been assigned a number by Sir Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore).
Number 1 is named Marcus and is played by actor Justin Cornwell. He has the role of the leader and the “head of the family” is in fact virtuous, reliable and kind. In short, he represents what Luther (played by Tom Hopper and Cameron Broudeur as a young man) Number 1 of the Umbrella Academy would like to be.
Number 2 is Ben (Justin H. Min) who the audience already knows. But this new Ben is different from his departed Umbrella Academy brother. While the old Ben was extremely good and selfless, the new Ben is power-hungry and determined to take over the leadership of the group.
Number 3 is Fei (Brirne Oldford), a lonely, highly intelligent girl who is the most determined to achieve her own and the group’s goals.
Number 4 is Alphonso (Jake Epstein), described by Netflix as the epitome of biting irony. He has gone through many challenges and difficulties that have left numerous wounds on his body.
Number 5 is Sloane (Genesis Rodriguez) a romantic and sentimental girl. She thinks she has a real mission, but is limited by her family. But one day she’d like to explore the world and break free from the group.
Number 6 is Jayme (Cazzie David) a lonely girl who likes to hide in her hoodie. Quiet and reserved, but if she’s brought up, she’s sharp as a knife. Her only friend is Alphonso.
Number 7 is Christopher, who isn’t played by any actor because, as Netflix explains, he’s a “cube with telekinetic powers of unknown origin that can freeze a room and inspire paralyzing terror.” It is a kind of oracle that acts as a mediator between family members but also an expert advisor to each member. Precisely because of his key role, he is treated as part of the family.
The Umbrella Academy 3: release
These were the seven new characters in The Umbrella Academy 3, which will likely be released next year. Production will begin in February in Toronto and will also include the familiar cast.
