Amazon publishes a ranking of the Italian provinces that purchase the most devices for the Smart Home. Lombardy in the lead with 6 provinces in the top 10 positions.
From thermostats to motion sensors, from smart lighting systems to smoke detectors: smart home solutions based on IoT technologies are increasingly present in the homes of Italians.
79% of Italian consumers are willing to buy smart home products – according to data just released by the Internet of Things Observatory of the Politecnico di Milano – and one in four will do so, or has already done so, during 2016. The sector thus comes to weigh 7% of the IoT market in our country, thanks mainly to anti-intrusion applications and remotely controlled thermostats. The analysis was compiled on the occasion of Amazon.it’s Smart Home Week, which will end on October 14.
The provinces that invest the most in smart home
The province of Milan – again according to the analysis of smart home products sold on Amazon.it in the last year – leads the ranking for the largest purchases in the Internet of Things sector. Rome is also on the podium, taking second place, followed by Trieste. In the top ten of the areas that make the most purchases in the Smart Home sector we find respectively Bologna (4th), Cremona (5th), Aosta (6th), Como (7th), Pavia (8th), Monza and Brianza (9th) and Varese (10th). The Piedmontese provinces are present in positions 10 to 20 with Novara (11th), Turin (12th) and Verbania (14th). Among the provinces of the other major Italian cities, Padua and Verona are 16th and 17th, while Florence is in 21st place, Genoa 27th, Naples 78th and Palermo 86th.

The “smart” products most popular with Italians
Security products are those that have recorded the highest sales on Amazon.it: video cameras and alarms are by far the most popular devices. Then we find smart lighting systems – such as lights with sensors that detect the degree of brightness of the environment or manageable via smartphone. Electrical products, such as smart sockets that allow you to remotely program or activate the electricity supply through the socket, are placed on the third step of the podium. Followed closely by climate management thanks to smart thermostats and automation solutions such as, for example, those for remotely controlling the opening of gates.
