Apple has also included in the list of vintage products the iPhone 5c launched in 2013: technical support is limited and from 2022 it will be deleted
The iPhone 5C has officially become a vintage smartphone. This is said by Apple itself, which has included the model in the list of obsolete products. What does this mean, in practical terms: for this phone, according to Cupertino’s customs, the possibility of receiving technical support is significantly reduced.
It was launched on the market on September 20, 2013 and therefore, just over seven years after its debut, this model ends its life cycle forever, becoming an object for enthusiasts and collectors. For Apple, the inclusion in the list of obsolete products is realized when a specific model is no longer sold for at least five years; if at first glance it might seem few, just look back to understand the giant strides made by technology in the last five years and make the iPhone 5C look like a specimen now almost completely unusable.
iPhone 5C, when does technical support end
However, there is still some time to declare it completely old and therefore potentially impossible to be used. In fact, as far as technical support is concerned, the last date to receive assistance in Apple stores has been set in 2022. There are therefore at least two more years to still use the phone born in 2013.
The discourse is slightly different regarding the service centers authorized by Apple. In this case, the technical support can continue even after the established date, it being understood that it will no longer be possible to recover spare parts from the parent company, thus binding in fact any repairs.
iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S: not all are vintage in the same way
While for iPhone 5C the last date has already been marked on the calendar, this does not apply to the other model released at the same time: iPhone 5S. Although they are to all intents and purposes twins, at least from the point of view of the date, the latter has on its side the fact that it has remained longer in stores, making in fact its obsolescence slip.
Apple, what other products are added to the list with iPhone 5C
iPhone 5C was not the only model to end up in the list of oldies of Apple house. In fact, along with the smartphone you can also find the MacBook Pro; specifically we are talking about the 15-inch model that was put on the market in mid-2014. As with the iPhone, this laptop will receive support in flagship stores for some more time before it officially becomes obsolete.
