The best keyboards for Android and how to change them

If you want to change the keyboard of an Android smartphone or tablet, you can download some from safe programs and then, through the settings, replace them.

Do you find that the keyboard of your smartphone or tablet is not functional and comfortable? With Android there is a remedy: you can change it by downloading one of the many applications available on Google Play. It should be noted that not all keyboards are valid and above all safe. Some apps are able to record what you type, from simple text messages to passwords to access other apps or services. For this reason, we recommend that you only install keyboards that are available on Google Play and avoid those that you download from other sites with unreliable apks.

Before recommending third-party keyboards, we want to explain how to customize Google’s keyboard, the Google Gboard, which is usually pre-installed on all Android smartphones and tablets. If you are not convinced by this solution, you have at your disposal the best keyboards that you can immediately download from the dedicated store.

Modify keyboard settings

Whether it is the default keyboard or a third-party one, you can always change the settings according to your needs. Follow this path: Settings > Language and Input.

This will show you the available keyboards and by selecting the one you are interested in you can access and change the specific settings. If you have Google Gboard enabled, you can change the language, decide whether to enable spell checking, enable/disable voice and scroll typing. You can also change the theme and colors of the keyboard. Also very useful is the ability to resize the keyboard to be able to write with one hand (right or left): just select the option that you find under the heading Layout. Gboard also lets you do online searches and share the results obtained while you write. Just click on the Google logo at the top of the keyboard and then select “Share” to send the link.

Remember that you can always change the settings of the Gboard (and other keyboards) even while typing on Facebook, Whatsapp and other applications by clicking on the gear wheel icon at the top of the keyboard.

Hydrogen Keyboard also known as Chrooma is very reminiscent of the Google keyboard but allows for more customization. In addition to changing layout and settings according to your needs, it offers a great user experience thanks to multiple features. Some of them are very useful, such as: the ability to write using your thumb or dragging your finger on the keyboard, multiple gestures for deleting text, text prediction, emoji suggestion, numbers and punctuation. Fleksy is a fast, lightweight and intuitive keyboard. In the description of the application the importance that the developers give to the protection of privacy is immediately apparent. In fact, they state that Fleksy does not collect typed text such as passwords and credit card numbers.

Ecco come fare:

  • vai nelle Impostazioni;
  • seleziona la voce Lingua e immissioni;
  • Tastiera Corrente;
  • Scegli Tastiere.

A questo punto non dovrai fare altro che selezionare il nome della tastiera che hai scaricato e pigiare su Ok sul messaggio di sicurezza che si visualizza. To verify that you have correctly installed the alternative keyboard, follow the path shown above and check that under Current Keyboard you have the one you have chosen.

Installation is usually guided anyway. To change the specific settings of the keyboard you’ve chosen, as mentioned above, just look inside the head for the gear-shaped icon. If you want to change your keyboard instead, click on the keyboard or globe icon. If both are missing, press and hold the space bar on the keyboard for a few seconds.
