An independent developer has created a battle royale version of Nintendo’s celebrated game. Here’s how to play and a trick to win
If there is one thing for which millions of gamers around the world must give thanks to titles like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite, it is undoubtedly the Battle Royale mode. Playing in 100 on the same map to try and be the last survivor is such a simple, yet working idea that this mode has now become a drug for so many gamers around the world. So much so that someone came up with the idea: Super Mario Battle Royale.
The developer Inferno created the Battle Royale version of Nintendo’s legendary video game, the first of the successful and iconic series. The name of the game is plain and simple: Mario Royale. The good news is that the game is available for free to everyone via the web and that you can play either with the keyboard or by connecting a joypad. The bad news is that Nintendo will not allow Mario Royale to stay online for much longer: the company’s policy is clear, sharp and ironclad and when a developer creates something like Mario Royale soon finds himself in the mailbox an official warning from Nintendo that forces him to take a step back. Translated into simple words: if you are excited about the idea of playing Super Mario Bros in Battle Royale version, then hurry up and do it because you do not have much time.
Mario Royale: how it works
To play Mario Royale you just need to connect to the site http://www.infernoplus.com/royale/#main and, first, click on the bottom right to configure the keyboard or joypad. When we’re ready to play we’ll have to click on “Play Now!” and we’ll be sent to a very short warm up section during which we’ll already understand what it’s all about: a real hell, with dozens and dozens of Super Mario playing the same picture at the same time. You play at the same time in 75 and it is often difficult to understand which is our Mario, among the other 74. The game, otherwise, is the normal Super Mario with the same rules. We simply have one life (but with 100 coins we gain another). If we’re good enough, we’ll be able to move forward while the others are eliminated and, as in any Battle Royale, only one will remain.
Mario Royale: how to survive
In the Battle Royale version of Mario, the winner is not the one who arrives first, but the one who dies last. That’s why a good suggestion is to let most of the other players go ahead to make the picture less confusing. Sooner or later, some turtle will kill them all one by one. For the rest, if we have already played and won with the original Super Mario Nintendo we already know what to do, in which tubes to slip and where to find the coins that will give us additional lives. It’s the usual Mario, but in a crowded and fun version.
