Spotify is about to launch a subscription dedicated to its most demanding users, who love quality podcasts.
After the subscription to its vast music library, Spotify is ready to launch another type of paid subscription, this time completely dedicated to podcasts. Although there is no confirmation yet from official sources, among the benefits dedicated to subscribers to the service there would be exclusive episodes and interviews.
The idea of creating a new subscription just for listening to podcasts would be rather recent but already positively received by the users of the platform born in Sweden, informed and called to give their opinion through a recent survey. There are already many authors who rely on Spotify to broadcast episodes of their podcasts, mostly for free. With just a few taps it is possible to listen to the episodes or download them onto one’s smartphone, so that they are available even when there is no connection. The experience, however, could become even richer, especially for the most passionate.
Spotify and podcasts, what is the new service
According to what was revealed by the journalist Andrew Wallenstein through some screenshots published on the net, Spotify would have proposed to its users four different types of paid subscription. The prices, at least according to what reported in the survey, vary from 2.99 to 7.99 dollars and would be on a monthly basis.
A different price range correspond, of course, different types of bonuses. The lowest ones could count mainly on extra content such as interviews with the protagonists, while the most expensive subscriptions would have the possibility to listen to new episodes made especially for this type of subscribers, all without advertising.
Spotify and podcasts, will they be included in the music subscription?
The survey, on this juncture, has been quite clear. In fact, users were stressed that the service dedicated to podcasts would be completely disconnected from the music one, requiring for access a separate subscription, as an alternative or to be added eventually to the first.
Spotify and podcasts, the platform’s commitment in recent years
Recently, the Swedish service has been particularly committed to the creation of quality podcasts, so much so that in 2019 it has included among its ranks Gimlet Media Inc., a well-known podcast production company. They were also joined by Anchor, an online platform that helps its subscribers make and distribute their own content.
Not least of all is Joe Rogan, whose partnership with Spotify has been sealed with the creation of exclusive podcasts. The choice to host Rogan has not been all roses for the platform, however, as the controversial content of his podcasts has caused more than a few noses to turn due to guests, such as far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, who could cause more than one boycott among possible future subscribers.
