Sony confirms: with PS5 we will be able to play streaming games on PS4

Sony confirms a long-awaited feature: those who own a PS4 will be able to keep it and play remotely with the new next-gen console PS5

The debut is scheduled for today, although in Europe it will arrive only in a few days, yet for PlayStation 5 today is a day of confirmations. In fact, according to the words of Sony, it will be possible to access the new console even from PS4 via the Remote Play app, so you can play streaming games even through the previous model.

PlayStation 5 has inherited virtually all the features of the previous model. Left out are a few features, one of which is the ability to view Blu-ray movies in 3D, and a handful of titles that didn’t make it through the transition to the new technology. So, if PS4 can be replaced almost in its entirety by the new model, this feature introduced just in the last few hours will allow many gamers to extend the life of the penultimate version of PlayStation for a while longer. All, of course, is thanks to the feature that will allow you to place both models within the home and, through the network, take advantage of the same video games without having to interrupt the gaming experience.

PlayStation 5 streaming on PlayStation 4, how it works

Through a message on the official PlayStation blog, Sony has therefore confirmed the Remote Play feature via PS4. So, in addition to being able to access the new model through a PC or mobile, with the Remote Play app available on PS4 you’ll be able to do the same.

What does this translate to: in terms of gaming, you’ll be able to use PS4 to connect to PlayStation 5 and stream a title available on the latter, even if you’re in two different rooms of the house. In fact, the app allows streaming from the new to the old console on the connected TV, at 1080p resolution.

The ability to stream between PS4 and PS5 has brought a funny limitation of the newly released console into the spotlight. In fact, although PS4’s DualShock controller can’t be used on PS5 for native games, but only for those dedicated to the previous model, through streaming this block falls, allowing you to take full advantage for a while longer.

PlayStation 5 and streaming, which other platforms support it

It must be said that such a gimmick is not only valid for PS4 but also for other platforms. In fact, those who do not own the previous model will be able to take advantage of streaming through PS Remote Play even on computers with Windows operating system; in this case, to be enhanced will be the resolution, at 1080p and also in HDR format.

The same applies to devices with Android and iOS operating systems. Both have in fact available a dedicated version of the streaming application, updated to PS5, respectively on Google Play Store and App Store. It could then arrive for Mac as well, although at the moment it is not yet available.
