Smartphones: Samsung overturns the ranking in Europe

The Korean manufacturer continues to lose fans, but still recovers the first position in the ranking of the best-selling smartphone manufacturers in Europe

In recent months Samsung has been repeatedly overtaken in various smartphone sales rankings, compiled by more than one market analysis company. To surpass it was Xiaomi, which since last year has recorded an incredible growth just to the detriment of Samsung. The Korean manufacturer, in fact, this year didn’t get the price right for its top of the range Galaxy S21 line and paid the consequences.

The latest Counterpoint Research ranking for the third quarter of 2021 confirms this trend, with Samsung actually losing quite a bit compared to last year, but also gives hope for a recovery. The Korean giant surpasses again Xiaomi and takes back the top of the ranking of manufacturers for number of smartphones sold on European soil. All this just a few weeks before the launch of Xiaomi 12, the next Chinese top of the range, while it is still uncertain the launch date of Samsung Galaxy S22 and it is not yet clear if Samsung Galaxy S21 FE, a cheaper version of the Korean top of the range, will arrive.

Smartphone ranking: the third quarter in Europe

The Counterpoint data snapshot device sales in July, August and September 2021 in Europe, comparing them to the same period in 2020. In summary: Samsung sold less than both the same quarter of 2020 and the second half of 2021.

But since Xiaomi, after a long months-long growth, also lost something, here’s Samsung bypassing it and coming back first. All this while Apple capitalizes on the iPhone 13 effect and Huawei almost disappears from the smartphone market in the old continent.
