The full immersion in the world of teenagers is guaranteed thanks to a curious plot that has been able to capture adults and teens. In the meantime, after reviewing the first seasons, here are some interesting facts, starting with the homage that Laurie Nunn, the show’s author, wanted to pay to two of her favorite 80’s movies: Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink.

Asa Butterfield

The protagonist of Sex Education, Otis, is a very special character. Did you know that, almost ironically, in reality his mother is a psychologist, just like Jean in the series? He has stated how this has always made him smile and although his real mom is very different from Jean, not sneaky or overbearing, he has always tried not to contradict her and has always had to think and weigh his words.

Otis and Eric in Sex Education make reference to Super Smash Bros, a popular video game series from Nintendo and, again in reality, Asa is really a fan of these games and is also very competitive.

More trivia about Sex Education

The scenes in Moordale Secondary School were entirely filmed on the former University of South Wales campus in Caerleon in Britain.

Did you realize an oddity? Moordale, despite being set in England, fully represents a typical American high school. Remember the lockers or the fact that no school uniform is present? All of this is the result of an apt decision by the authors. The creators well thought that this would reach a more international audience, homogenizing forms and culture. They were right: the success is worldwide.

In the soundtrack of Sex Education there are some songs by the author, Ezra Furman, and guess what? He’s there himself: as a singer at the school dance. Did you recognize him?.

In real life the two of the lead actors, Connor Swindells, who plays Adam, and Aimee Lou Wood, who gives the face to Aimee, really hang out with each other on a day-to-day basis.

Now we’re ready to tackle the third season of Sex Education available, starting September 17, on the Netflix platform.
