A usually reliable informant gives us a detailed look at the next-generation cameras of Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra
Samsung is one of those companies that has always had smartphones with enviable photographic performance. After all, for years it has been the only competitor to Apple and its iPhones, thanks to the quality of its top of the range Galaxy, of which the Galaxy S22 Ultra will be the latest exponent of an “ancient” tradition.
We already know several aspects of the Galaxy S22 Ultra: it will be a very powerful smartphone, with a screen of extreme quality and fast charging better than in the past, and now the informant IceUniverse, which often in the past has proven reliable, offers us a detailed focus on the new generation cameras that will be used on the Korean top of the range. Samsung will spare no expense, and although if you were to stop at just comparing the megapixels between the current generation and the next you might think that nothing will change, the reality that comes out of the anticipations of IceUniverse tells us that three of the four cameras of Galaxy S22 Ultra will be new and better than the past.
The truth about the cameras of Galaxy S22 Ultra
According to information obtained by the informant, on the cameras of Galaxy S22 Ultra have circulated incorrect information. The informant has denied in a tweet the previous rumors that reported the presence of three rear cameras of 12 megapixels each, in addition to the main 108-megapixel.
Based on his information the cameras on the back of Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra will be four, as has been rumored for some time and as on the current Galaxy S21 Ultra, two of which, however, will have a resolution just lower: not 12 but 10 megapixels. So, ultimately, according to the informant Galaxy S22 Ultra will have a 108-megapixel camera, two 10-megapixel cameras and a fourth 12-megapixel camera, so with the same resolution as the current top of the range.
Same megapixels but revamped sensors
And if nothing will change in terms of resolution compared to the Galaxy S21 Ultra, to Galaxy S22 Ultra Samsung will give higher photographic performance thanks to improved sensors. The 108-megapixel main camera for example will be a revised and improved version of Samsung’s Isocell HM3 sensor, and will have a size of 1/1.33 inches, a field of view of 85 degrees, f/1.8 focal aperture and 0.8 micrometer pixels.
The Galaxy S22 Ultra’s only 12-megapixel camera will be an ultra-wide one made by Sony with a 120-degree field of view, 1.4-micrometer pixels and f/2.2 focal aperture; it will likely be the same one used on the Galaxy S21 Ultra today.
The two 10-megapixel cameras on Samsung’s Galaxy S22 Ultra will also come from Sony factories, and both will have revamped sensors. One, a telephoto lens, will be capable of 3x zoom with a 36-degree field of view and f/2.4 focal aperture, while the other, a telephoto lens with a periscope structure, will be able to magnify by as much as 10 times what the 108-megapixel main camera would see and will have f/4.9 aperture and 11-degree field of view.
