From Galaxy S22 Ultra is expected a further step on the front of photographic quality: it was assumed a new 200 MP sensor, but it seems that it will not come
On the fact that Samsung will do everything to increase as much as possible the photographic performance of Galaxy S22 Ultra there are not many doubts, which instead insist on how it will do it. Previously it was speculated that the company would focus on a higher resolution of the main sensor, a scenario that is now challenged by an indiscretion from Ice Universe.
According to the latest, on Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra there will be a more refined version of the 108-megapixel sensor present on Galaxy S21 Ultra, a sensor that would thus reach the third generation. A constant refinement of performance that Samsung would bring forward on its line of top of the range “traditional”, remained orphan – at least for this year – of news on the front Galaxy Note in favor of the concept of foldable smartphones, those yes at the center of care and constant renovations that we will discover at the event Galaxy Unpacked in August, from which will come out Galaxy Z Flip 3, Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Buds 2. While we wait to find out the news though, here’s the latest on Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.
On Galaxy S22 Ultra no 200-megapixel sensor
Ice Universe, who entrusted his prediction to Weibo, China’s Facebook, said he was almost completely certain that there will be no 200-megapixel sensor on Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, but that it will continue on the line traced by Galaxy S21 Ultra with its 108-megapixel main sensor, further refined and evolved to the third generation.
Last April, it was reported that Samsung would partner with Olympus for the Galaxy S22 line of cameras. Difficult that this could happen if today’s indiscretion were to have a concrete basis, more likely that the possible collaboration with Olympus could be announced at the time of the debut of new weight on the front of the cameras.
More megapixels more quality?
The indiscretion of Ice Universe should not worry, however. By now it’s clear that the number of megapixels marginally affects the quality of a shot, so if the main sensor of Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra really should be the third-generation Samsung Isocell HM3, then maintain the 108 megapixels of Galaxy S21, there would be no cause for alarm: the quality of a shot depends on many factors, in addition to megapixels, and never like today is also influenced by the software.
Samsung could, for example, evolve the sensor of the Galaxy S22 Ultra and change the image processor (ISP): in this case, the final quality of the shot would change radically despite the sensor side there would be a simple evolution of what already exists.
In short, in the field of photography, the factors that determine the quality of photos and videos are really many, and even a marginal evolution of the current sensor would not necessarily imply a small step forward in the quality of the shots of Galaxy S22 Ultra. Samsung, as always, will try to offer the best even on the next top of the range, about this there are few doubts.
