The market is preparing to welcome a new top-of-the-line Chinese smartphone. It is the Redmi Pro 2, with top features and low cost price
For quite some time we all knew Redmi as the low cost brand of Chinese Xiaomi. But since January when Redmi has “emancipated” from Xiaomi becoming an independent brand, while remaining in the Xiaomi group, things have changed. And this is shown by the latest rumors about the Redmi Pro 2.
The new top-of-the-line 2019 smartphone from Redmi, in fact, could be much more than a low-cost terminal. According to the latest news, a render and a photo, circulated by a blogger on Wibo (a sort of Chinese hybrid between Twitter and Facebook), the Redmi Pro could even be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor and a 13 MP pop up front camera. In the photo circulating on the net, you can see Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun holding a smartphone, which would be the Redmi Pro prototype, while the render shows some technical specifications.
Redmi Pro 2: what we know so far
Looking at the image and reading the little text that accompanies the render, it would seem that the Redmi Pro 2 will have a display without a notch, abandoned in favor of the retractable camera positioned at the top right of the screen, with a fingerprint reader integrated into the screen (since there is no on the back).
As for the rest of the photo department, however, we also see three rear cameras. In the past, for this flagship smartphone from Redmi, a configuration similar to that of the Redmi Note 7 was speculated: 13 MP front camera in the notch and 48 MP + 5 MP rear camera. Also in the text accompanying the render, finally, we find the reference to the Snapdragon 855.
That Redmi was working on a smartphone with the most powerful processor in the Snapdragon range had already been declared at the end of March by Lu Weibing, Vice President and head of the Redmi brand. But Weibing had also stated that it would not be an upcoming smartphone. Finally, again from the render, it would seem that the Redmi Pro 2 will have a large 4,800 mAh battery.
Redmi Pro 2: when it comes out and how much it costs
As we have seen, on the Redmi Pro 2 at the moment there are only rumors and leaks. Usually, however, when the renders of new smartphones start to turn, it’s not long before the official presentation of the final product. Today we don’t know when the Redmi Pro 2 will really hit the market, but we are at least sure that we are closer to that date. As for the price, however, the only guess that can be made is the comparison with the other top of the range of the Xiaomi group: the Mi 9 launched in February. The Xiaomi Mi9 starts from a price of 449 euros in Europe, in the basic configuration with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. A hypothetical Redmi Pro 2, with virtually identical features from a true top of the range, should cost slightly less.
