Available at the moment only in emerging markets, it has a battery that lasts much more than a day and price below 100 euros
Xiaomi bets again on emerging markets presenting the successor of the Redmi 7A, the smartphone of the entry level segment launched in China last May. The Redmi 8A features the same technical aspects as the previous version, but with a new, more modern design, especially on the front, which has been modified by the adoption of a notch in place of the old upper edge.
Although the Redmi 8A has some respectable technical features (such as the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 cover and a USB Type-C port, two components that are hard to find on a budget smartphone), the launch price is very tempting. As mentioned, however, this is a device designed at the moment for emerging markets, especially those of Southeast Asia. It is not known, at least for now, if the Redmi 8 will also arrive in Italy.
Redmi 8A: technical specifications
The display of 6.22 inches diagonal and HD + resolution is not exactly the best in terms of sharpness, but, as we all know, you can not expect too much from an entry-level device. The nerve center of the new Chinese smartphone is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 processor flanked by 2 or 3 gigabytes of RAM and a memory with storage capacity of 32 gigabytes expandable up to 512 GB through the use of a MicroSD card.
The photographic compartment consists of only two cameras, one front and one rear. The rear camera takes advantage of a 12 MegaPixel Sony IMX363 sensor with f/1.8 focal aperture, while the front camera has a resolution of 8 megapixels. Connectivity is provided by Dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 5.0.
It also does not go unnoticed the P2i nano coating, which provides resistance to water splashes, but does not make it waterproof. But the real strength of the new Redmi 8A is the 5,000 mAh battery coupled with a special processor that optimizes the autonomy and equipped with fast charging at 18W via the USB Type-C port.
Finally, no sensor for fingerprint detection, the smartphone uses a facial unlock system. Only three colors are available: black, blue and red.
Redmi 8A: release and prices
For now, the new entry-level phone from the Chinese giant is available only in India at a price that at the exchange rate is around 83 euros for the version with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage and about 90 euros for the variant equipped with 3GB of RAM and always 32GB of storage.
For now, no dates have been announced for the release of Xiaomi’s new budget smartphone in different international markets, but the announcement is expected soon in the coming weeks.
