PS5, DualShock will be able to “feel” players’ emotions

Sony has filed a patent for a controller that can listen to players’ emotions. Here’s how it works

Use biofeedback technology to improve the gaming experience, this is, apparently, the will of Sony at the base of the new patent of the latest generation controller filed in recent days by the Japanese company. A truly innovative controller that will be able to monitor heart rate and perspiration levels and adjust the gameplay accordingly.

With the new DualShock 5, Sony intends to provide gamers with a more immersive experience with the console. Picking up a joystick and starting to play causes emotions that affect one’s mood. Sony’s goal is to use them to its advantage to develop a gaming experience never seen before. For the moment, Sony has presented the patent of the new DualShock controller and could already debut with the release of the PlayStation 5 scheduled for the holiday season of 2020.

DualShock 5: the characteristics

The characteristics of the new DualShock 5 have been revealed by a recent patent filed by Sony and discovered by the portal Respawnfirst. Sony has integrated into the controller a series of sensors capable of analyzing the “emotions” of players based on heart rate and sweating. These two parameters will be able to influence the gameplay and the console can decide whether to make the title even scarier or if instead tone it down a bit. A function that makes the PlayStation 5 unique.

The patent of the new DualShock 5

The new controller, and consequently the game, can therefore be customized according to the mood and emotions felt by the gamer during the gaming experience. The patent shows how the DualShock 5 can be used in symbiosis with the PlayStation Camera, Sony’s webcam. Not only that, it seems that Sony is willing to implement the use of the new controller with the next generation of virtual reality devices, the so-called PS5 VR to offer its “faithful” a gaming experience more immersive and never seen before.
