Porject Scarlett is the codename of the next Microsoft console. Unveiled the first technical characteristics: support for 8K resolution and lots of power
We have a name and a release date: Xbox Project Scarlett, Christmas 2020. What are we talking about? Of the new console that Microsoft has made official during the event organized at E3 2019 in Los Angeles, the most important video game fair in the World. Among the many innovations presented by the company of Redmond there is also the Xbox Scarlett, the future console that will replace the Xbox One X.
There was a lot of expectation around the Xbox conference: after the latest news released by Sony on PS5, everyone was waiting for the response of Microsoft, which in fact has not been delayed. The Xbox Scarlett will bring the world of consoles in a new generation, where the power of hardware and the quality of games will go hand in hand. Microsoft has focused a lot on this new console, also to respond to the Google Stadia project that has the clear objective of making consoles disappear from the living room of gamers. For this reason Xbox Scarlett will natively support ProjectX Cloud, the streaming platform created by Microsoft and that will debut in the coming months. It is not important with what kind of support you intend to play (physical or digital, Bluray or streaming platform), the console will always be at the center of the user’s projects.
Xbox Scarlett, the technical characteristics
Let’s start with a clarification. The new console was presented with the name of Xbox Project Scarlett, but for the moment it is provisional. Before the official release of the console will also come the final name.
Despite still missing more than a year to the release set for the holiday season of 2020, the Redmond company has made official most of the hardware components. It starts with a processor built with Zen 2 architecture and Navi GPU, the same that will be present on the next PlayStation 5. To support the SoC we find a GDDR6 RAM of at least 16GB and a high-performance SSD that will minimize loading times. The hardware architecture is expected to produce a power of 24 Teraflops, four times as much as that of the Xbox One. Should this news be confirmed, it gives an idea of the potential of Microsoft’s new console.
Now let’s move on to the Xbox Scarlett’s graphics features. Microsoft has assured that 8K resolution with 120 frames per second will be supported. There should also be an HDMI 2.1 and support for Ray Tracing.
Xbox Scarlett, the games available
For the launch of Project Scarlett Microsoft is preparing a long-awaited return: Halo. During the conference it was confirmed that the console will be released along with Halo Infinite, the new title on which 343 Industries is working. From the few rumors released so far, the series should return to the classic settings of the game, abandoning the drift of recent years.
Xbox Scarlett, release date and price
Microsoft has announced that the Xbox Scarlett will arrive for the Christmas vacations: it is likely that the output is set for the month of November. Impossible to make predictions regarding the price, but reading the data sheet of the Xbox Scarlett, it will hardly cost less than 499 euros.
