PosteMobile down in Italy on September 28: users can’t call or send messages, here’s what’s going on
[Updated at 21:00 on 28/09/2020]
PosteMobile down on September 28 throughout Italy. The users of the telephone operator of Poste Italiane report problems both on the telephone line, and on the data connection to the internet, finding themselves completely isolated.
Both on Twitter and on the site specialized in breakdowns Downdetector you can read a growing number of reports from users, who are unable to use the PosteMobile service. The failure seems to be widespread throughout Italy, since at first most of the reports were concentrated in the regions of Northern Italy, but with the advance of time the number has also increased in the regions of Central and Southern Italy. There are no comments or statements from PosteMobile about what is happening and when the outage will be resolved.
PosteMobile down, malfunctions
The problems with PosteMobile started from 10 am on Monday, September 28, but it was from 11 am onwards that reports of malfunctions exploded on social networks and sites specialized in monitoring downs of websites and apps, such as Downdetector.
Users are mainly complaining about the absence of the phone line, which prevents them from making and receiving calls, as well as sending or receiving SMS messages.
Internet line malfunctions have also been reported, with no access to the data connection. The malfunctions concern the whole of Italy and it is not clear what could have caused the damages that are isolating PosteMobile users. What is certain, however, is that for hours thousands of customers have been trying to contact Poste Mobile customer service.
PosteMobile down, protests on Twitter
At 9pm, that is 11 hours after the first reports, many Poste Mobile users are still complaining on Twitter that they have no phone line and cannot access the Internet from their cell phones. The problem, therefore, is more serious than you might initially think and Poste Italiane has not communicated any specific information on possible resolution times, just writing on its website: “PosteMobile: malfunctions are reported on the network. We are working to restore the service as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience.”
No official tweets from Poste Italiane, while Poste Mobile’s Twitter account has been inactive since 2018. On Facebook, no post about it, with Poste Mobile merely responding to users asking questions by commenting on previous posts “Hello, we apologize, we are working to restore the service as soon as possible”.
PosteMobile down, the geography of the outages
It is not currently possible to determine with certainty which areas are the most affected by the Poste Mobile down, also because the problem seems to be quite widespread throughout the country.
It is instead possible to map the reports, which come mainly from the large cities of northern and central Italy: Milan, Rome, Turin, Bologna, Florence, Genoa, Padua, Verona, but Naples is not missing either. As it often happens in these cases, however, the map of the reports of the failure does not correspond exactly to the map of the inefficiency: it simply represents the areas where there are more customers of the operator in down.
PosteMobile down, problems also for the websites
The very long down of Poste Mobile has also caused two side effects: the Poste Mobile website and that of Poste Italiane (although much less) are in trouble. Users, in fact, finding the lines of customer service 160 clogged, have poured en masse on the Internet to look for information on when the Poste Mobile downtime will end.
The result, in the case of the site of the virtual operator of telephony, is a noticeable slowdown of the home page and, in some cases, the inability to access the site.
