After last year’s record-breaking Pokemon GO has lost active users significantly, Niantic has promised new updates, will they be enough to save the game?
Pokemon Go was the game of records in the history of video games for smartphones. Yet the magic seems to be over. Users have grown tired of searching for and training Pokemon so much that players compared to last year’s boom have dropped 80%. What future for the game?
But let’s start with order. Since its launch at the beginning of last summer, Pokemon Go has grown vertiginously and steadily, except for starting to lose users significantly from the end of fall 2016. Pokemon Go peaked in the United States on July 13, 2016, thanks to 28.5 million active users. Already in August, however, the number dropped to 20 million to drop further below 10 million between September and October 2016. Currently, however, the game travels on an average of five million active users per day. Obviously, the data always refer to the United States.
The future of Pokemon Go
Niantic has tried to update the game with new features but the effects have not been as hoped. Of course, even remaining under an average of 5 million users we are not talking about a small figure, indeed. It is still one of the most popular and used games. The question at this point is: how long will the Pokemon Go phenomenon last? Will the game be able to relaunch itself just one year after its release or is it destined to end its experience soon? The key lies in the updates, which are often a bit slow on the part of the Niantic company. Experts say that the future of the game passes through the gyms and the ability to challenge gym leaders. We’ll see if with new updates and with the summer Pokemon Go will be able to return the record title of just a year ago.
