Poco M3 Pro: now 159 euros are enough for a 5G smartphone

At its promotional launch price, the new Poco M3 Pro is the cheapest 5G Android smartphone on the market: features and details

Since its “first” with Pocophone F1 in 2018, the company born from Xiaomi has made itself known model after model for the high value for money of its products. The Poco M3 Pro is no exception at all, an Android smartphone that in its current state is the one that offers support for 5G networks at the lowest price ever.

Low cost yes, but quality. Poco M3 Pro is the result of a successful compromise, at least looking at the technical specifications card. Then, you know, the success or failure of a product depends on many other factors including design, which is subjective but you can’t say that Poco M3 Pro lacks personality. Not on the front section, which forces a bit ‘all manufacturers to standardized solutions, which in the case of the newborn Poco result in a display interrupted only by the central hole that houses the camera for selfies and surrounded by bezels abundant only on the bottom side. The personality is on the back, where stand out the yellow color of the three available (black and blue) and the rectangle that contains the three cameras with the company logo.

Poco M3 Pro: features

To drive Poco M3 Pro there is a SoC (System on a Chip) produced by MediaTek, the Dimensity 700 built at 7 nanometers with integrated 5G modem. This is a platform with octa-core CPU that can reach 2.2 GHz maximum frequency and Mali-G57 GPU, flanked by 4 or 6 GB of RAM type LPDDR4X and 64 or 128 GB of storage type UFS 2.2, moreover expandable via microSD.

The 6.5-inch diagonal display with LCD IPS technology has Full HD + resolution (2,400 x 1,080 pixels) and, more importantly, a refresh rate that can go up to 90 Hz. It can do so, because it’s the software that decides: to always strike the ideal compromise between power consumption and visual fluidity there is what has been called DynamicSwitch, a function that can set the refresh rate at 90, 60, 50 or 30 Hz depending on the circumstances without the user noticing anything – or at least that’s the promise.

Camera side, as anticipated above, on Poco M3 Pro there are a sensor in the 8-megapixel display for selfies and three sensors at the rear: 48-megapixel f/1.79 the main one, a 2-megapixel f/2.4 macro and finally a depth sensor always 2-megapixel f/2.4. Connectivity “standard” with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, etc., with the exceptions of support for 5G with Dual Standby, NFC and input for the 3.5 mm audio jack.

The battery is quite capacious: 5,000 mAh with fast charging up to 18 watts, a capacity that according to Poco could suffice even for two days of use. The user interface is the MIUI 12 for Poco based on Android 11. Finally, the dimensions are abundant, although on closer inspection Poco M3 Pro is also smaller and lighter than many other peers: 161.81 x 75.34 x 8.92 mm with a weight of 190 grams.
