PlayStation 5, unveiled features, logo and launch date

Those who expected to see the PS5 on the stage of CES 2020 were disappointed: in its presentation event Sony did not unveil the design of the next-generation console, but only confirmed what we already knew: some features, the name and the possible release date.

On the stage of the U.S. exhibition was Jim Ryan, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Enetertainmen, who spoke about the potential of the new console and showed for the first time the logo of PS5. Even in this case there are no big news: the lettering and font used are very similar to those of the PlayStation 4. A choice in continuity to show the strength of the brand. The only interesting news provided by Jim Ryan concerns the date of presentation of the console: we must wait a few more months and users will be informed in time. At this point it’s reasonable to expect that the presentation will take place during the E3 (the exhibition dedicated to video games organized in Los Angeles and held in June) or in an ad hoc event.

The characteristics of the PS5

No substantial news about the characteristics of the PlayStation 5. During the event organized by Sony at CES 2020 it was repeated what we already knew: there will be 3D audio, haptic feedback and adaptive triggers for the Dual Shock 5, high-speed SSD that will provide high performance, 4K Blu-Ray player and hardware support for Ray-Tracing.

As for the hardware components, nothing has been revealed, but the PS5 shouldn’t be too different from the Xbox Series X, with a custom AMD processor on board and designed specifically for the new console.

When the PS5 comes out

Jim Ryan has only repeated what was already announced a few months ago: the PlayStation 5 will be released on the market in the 2020 holiday season. Hard to make predictions, but it is very likely that the console will be launched during Black Friday 2020, so towards the end of November.

Price PS5

The price of the PlayStation 5 was not mentioned in the Sony event. So we have to rely on the latest rumors that came out online: the console is expected to launch at a price of just under $400.
