Here are all the technical features and prices of Google Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5, two mid-range smartphones that may never arrive in Italy
As long announced Google presented on September 30 its two new smartphones Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a. And as has long been known, these are not two top of the range, but two mid-range phones with an acceptable price and the touch of Google, which usually does the magic on Pixel.
Both based on the SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 765, the two Pixel do not even intend to challenge the top of the range in terms of pure performance: they are two smartphones designed to show the world what you can do by exploiting 100% of the features of Android 11. The “pure” one, without the heavy graphic interfaces offered by other manufacturers. But from a Pixel you expect even more, in addition to stock Android: a top-notch camera. Waiting to see the shots of Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G, from which you can give a reasoned opinion on the photographic compartment of these two smartphones (which share the same sensors), the only thing that can be said is that even Google has conformed to the fashion of the moment: both on Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a there is the wide angle, although not “ultrawide”. But that’s not all, because there is also another news: there are no more bezels, Google has surrendered even to the hole notch.
Google Pixel 5: technical sheet
The Google Pixel 5 is a 5G smartphone (both Sub-6GHz and mmWave) equipped with SoC Snapdragon 765 with eight cores clocked at a maximum of 2.4 GHz. It comes with 8 GB of RAM (which is not at all little on a mid-range 2020) and 128 GB of storage. Speaking of storage space: by buying a Pixel 5 or iun Pixel 4a 5G the user also gets 100 GB of space on Google One, to which is added three free months of Google Stadia.
The screen is 6 inches, with Full HD+ resolution “2340×1080 pixels), OLED technology and refresh “up to” 90 Herz. The sensor for the fingerprint, despite the fact that OLED technology allows it, has not been integrated under the screen but behind the smartphone. There is no technical reason, those who already have a Pixel are comfortable with it.
The battery is 4,000 mAh, which are neither few nor many compared to the competition, but on the Pixel the autonomy issue is always a separate issue: Google usually manages to optimize its smartphones so well that the power consumption is significantly lower than devices of the same level produced by others. Google claims that through the “extreme power saving” feature the Pixel 5 can get up to 48 hours of autonomy.
Recharging, in any case, is 18W with the USB-C cable. For the first time, a Google device also supports wireless charging in Qi standard and even reverse charging.
The Pixel 5’s cameras are three: two in the back and one in the front. About half the size of current top-of-the-line devices. At the back is a 12.2 MP f/1.7 main sensor, with a 77-degree angle of view and optical stabilizer. The second camera is no longer a macro lens but a wide-angle, not extreme, 107-degree lens.
It has a 16 MP resolution and f/2.2 aperture. With the Pixel 5 you can record video in 4K at 60 frames per second, or go down in resolution and use slow motion up to 240 fps. Useful for documentaries. Both Pixels offer three video stabilization modes.
On the front, however, we find an 8 MP camera with a shooting angle of 83 degrees. So no wide-angle lens for selfies, not even this year.

This paragraph will be much shorter than the previous one, because the technical differences between the Pixel 5 and the Pixel 4a 5G can be counted on the fingers of one hand: same SoC, same photo compartment, same rear fingerprint sensor, same Android 11 operating system, same Titan M security chip.
Where are the differences? In the screen, RAM and battery. And they’re not even that pronounced. The Pixel 4a 5G’s screen is bigger than the Pixel 5’s: 6.2 inches. It also has the same resolution, but the refresh rate stops at 60 Hz.
The RAM instead stops at 6 GB, while the internal memory is always 128 GB. The battery, finally, is a little less capacious and advanced: 3,885 mAh, without wireless charging and reverse charging. Stop, finished differences.
Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a: prices and availability
At the moment there is no official statement from Google that suggests otherwise: the two new Pixel will not arrive in Italy. It is not known if the situation will change in the future, because with the Covid-19 the chain of component suppliers has had such a strong shock that even the launch of the iPhone 12 has been delayed. This year it is so.
The Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G will arrive, on October 15, certainly in the United States, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Japan, Taiwan, Australia. In European countries, the Pixel 5 will cost 629 euros, while the Pixel 4a 5G will cost 499 euros.
With prices like that, and such small differences between the two models, one would think that the best-selling Google Pixel 2020 will be the 4a 5G. However, in the coming days, more details are sure to come out about the Pixel’s exclusive features that could change this judgment.
