OnePlus has released a new charger: it’s super fast

It will debut alongside the new OnePlus 8T smartphone but will also be compatible with previous models

OnePlus has pulled out of the hat a charger with a decidedly high speed, able to beat on time its predecessor Warp Charge 30: it’s called Warp Charge 65 and will officially see the light together with OnePlus 8T, the new top of the range smartphone that will be available for purchase starting in October.

What changes between Warp Charge 65 and the previous model? Above all, the loading times, which is definitely no small thing. According to the Chinese company, the new generation 65W charger will be able to fully charge the new OnePlus 8T with its 3,900 mAh battery in just 39 minutes. If you don’t have time, however, you can rely on a partial charge: in 15 minutes the battery could already be back to 58% of full charge. That’s a big difference, so you can get your smartphone back up and running without the long waits that come with traditional chargers with less power.

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau also emphasised the importance of speed: “Charging should be fast and simple to help make your digital life as easy as possible. With the goal of delivering a fast and smooth peak experience, we have changed our approach to fast charging for OnePlus 8T 5G.” However, safely managing such a high-powered charge is not easy and that’s why OnePlus had to further refine its Warp Charge technology.

Warp Charge 65: how it works

To enable fast charging without overheating and consequent impact on battery life, OnePlus has developed a special system capable of constantly monitoring the charging of the battery through 12 temperature sensors inside the smartphone. Alongside them, a special heat dissipation system is able to lower the thermometer bringing everything back to an ideal temperature. Lithium-ion batteries, in fact, are quite finicky in terms of temperatures endured: if it’s too cold or too hot they recharge poorly and more slowly.

Although its release will go hand in hand with the long-awaited OnePlus 8T arriving on October 14, the Warp Charge 65 charger can also be used to charge devices already in range thanks to the support of previous OnePlus protocols and the more popular USB Power Delivery charging technology. In the latter case, however, you’ll be able to count on a lower overall speed compared to that of the new smartphone, because the power delivered stops at 45 W. That’s actually not too little: about three times the power of a standard charger that comes with the latest generation of smartphones.
