OnePlus 8 with no more secrets: here’s how it will look

OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro are the two new top-of-the-line smartphones from the Chinese company. On board is the Snapdragon 865 with 12GB of RAM. Here’s how much they cost

Waiting for April 14, the day when the official presentation of the new OnePlus 8 family has been scheduled, a new juicy rumor spread by the usual Roland Quandt, the WinFuture leaker, reveals in advance the technical characteristics in detail. Among the big smartphone manufacturers OnePlus had not yet neither presented nor announced its top-of-the-line device for 2020, and despite the outbreak of the Covid – 19 pandemic in much of the World, the Chinese company now seems ready to present in live streaming the new OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro devices.

It is as usual top-of-the-line devices: the processor will be the same on both devices, the Snapdragon 865. The differences will be on the size and features of the screen, the size of the battery, the number of cameras and protection from water and dust. Compared to the past, the price of OnePlus smartphones should be a bit higher and almost touch 1000 euros. But on this point there is still no confirmation. Here are the characteristics of OnePlus 8 smartphones.

One Plus 8: technical specifications

The new top-of-the-line smartphone OnePlus 8 even in its standard version is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor combined with 8 and 12GB RAM and a storage unit with a capacity of 128 GB or 256 GB. The display boasts a 6.55-inch diagonal, a Fluid AMOLED with Always On feature and FHD+ resolution of 2400×1080 pixels, 90Hz refresh rate, 402ppi and 20:9 aspect ratio. The fingerprint sensor is integrated into the screen, but the phone also features facial recognition. 4,300 mAh battery with 30W fast charging.

The photo compartment consists of a triple rear camera with the lenses aligned in the center of the body. The main sensor is the 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 with f/1.75 aperture, followed by a 16-megapixel ultra wide-angle lens with f/2.2 aperture and an impressive 116° viewing angle and a 2-megapixel macro lens with f/2.4 aperture. In the front the camera always sports a Sony sensor, the IMX 471 from 16 megapixels. Three colors available: Onyx Black, Glacial Green and Ultramarine Blue.

One Plus 8 Pro: the technical card

The Pro version of the OnePlus 8 boasts a number of substantial differences compared to the standard model, bringing to the top the special features of a true cameraphone ready to give the edge to the top models of the main competitors. Identical chipset, we speak of the SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 with a RAM memory of 8 or 12 GB and a hard drive of 128 or 256 GB.

The display is larger than the standard version: a Fluid AMOLED 6.78 inches with QHD+ resolution of 3168×1440 pixels, refresh rate of 120Hz, 513ppi, 19.8:9 format. More powerful is the battery of the Pro version, 4,510 mAh with fast charging at 30W, wireless charging also at 30W and reverse charging.

The photo compartment features a quad camera with the 48-megapixel sensor with f/1.78 aperture, a second 48-megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture and 120° viewing angle, an 8-megapixel telephoto lens and f/2.4 aperture and a 5-megapixel color filter sensor. Also on the Pro version there is facial recognition and the fingerprint sensor integrated into the display. Always three colors available: Onyx Black, Glacial Green and Ultramarine Blue. Finally, the OnePlus 8 Pro comes with IP68 Certification, a Dual SIM in nano format, an NFC sensor, the haptic vibration engine and support for 5G.

OnePlus 8 Release Date and Price

The unveiling is set for April 14 and pre-orders will most likely open on the same day. As for shipping and market debut, we will have to wait at least a few weeks. The prices of the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro should be a bit higher than the previous model: the premium version should touch almost a thousand euros.
