OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro have been officially unveiled. On board is the Snapdragon 865 with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Prices starting at just over 700 euros
OnePlus 8 Series is finally among us. In an event broadcast live streaming online, the Chinese company has presented its latest two creations: the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro. As the Chinese company has accustomed us for quite some time now, these are two top of the line devices, but with many differences between them. The OnePus 8 is a smartphone suitable for those who do not want to spend a large amount of money, but at the same time need a snappy and responsive device.
The OnePlus 8 Pro is a cell phone of even higher end: if possible we can define smartphone “premium”. With this device the company wants to sew the gap that distances it from the most renowned manufacturers such as Samsung and Huawei that just in recent weeks have launched the Galaxy S20 and the Huawei P40. For this reason OnePlus has spared no expense and has integrated on board the OnePlus 8 Pro the best hardware components available on the market, starting with the Snapdragon 865. But the real surprise is in the display, which thanks to the 120Hz refresh rate and the brightness that reaches up to 1400 nits is a candidate to be one of the best of this first half of 2020.
This leap forward, however, has led OnePlus to a difficult choice and a change in its philosophy: prices have definitely increased compared to the past and for the first time we exceed 1000 euros. Here’s everything you need to know about the new OnePlus 8 Series.
OnePlus 8: features
The beating engine of the OnePlus 8 is the Snapdragon 865 chipset with to support 8-12GB of RAM and 128-256GB of internal memory, not expandable. There are two versions present: base model with 8-128GB and more advanced version with 12-256GB. As for the design, OnePlus has tried to optimize the bezels by inserting a front hole with the camera inside, saying goodbye to the front notch and the pop-up camera. The optimization of the bezels has allowed us to integrate a 6.55-inch screen with FullHD+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate.
As for the photo compartment, we find on the back of the OnePlus 8 a 48-megapixel main sensor, a 16-megapixel wide-angle lens and finally a 2-megapixel macro sensor.
In comparison to the past, the battery also becomes more capacious: 4300 mAh with 30W fast charging.
The OnePlus 8 Pro
Similar, but not too much. That’s how you could sum up an ultra-quick comparison between the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro.
The highest-performing model of the Chinese company’s new smartphones shares the same processor, the Snapdragon 865, and the same amount of RAM, 8-12GB, and internal storage, 128-256GB, with its younger brother. What changes is everything else, starting with the screen.
The OnePlus 8 Pro is slightly larger, with a 6.78-inch Fluid AMOLED panel and a QuadHD+ resolution. The refresh rate is 120Hz.
On the rear is a quad camera with a 48-megapixel main sensor, supported by a 48-megapixel wide-angle lens, a telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and a 5-megapixel color filter sensor.
On the OnePlus 8 Pro also makes its debut IP68 certification, so far never achieved by a OnePlus smartphone. The other novelty, however, concerns the 4510mAh battery: in addition to ultra-rapid charging there is also wireless charging from 30W.
OnePlus 8: improves integration with Google
One of the strengths of OnePlus has always been the user interface and with the OnePlus 8 takes a further leap forward thanks to even greater integration with Google. You could almost call the OnePlus 8 a small Pixel, but the differences between the two smartphones are there, right from the Oxygen interface that becomes even smarter and easier to use.
