Made by a startup, the T-shirt includes a sensor system that makes the wearer’s virtual experience deeper
The latest technological innovations revolve mainly around virtual reality, which represents the next terrain on which major hi-tech companies will test themselves. An important role in this area will also be played by the innovative ideas of some startups. As in the case of OBE, a smart shirt that connects with a VR visor.
The device, which was developed by an emerging reality called Machina, is actually a set of sensors, placed in multiple points on the smart garment, that allow tracking the movements of the person wearing them. OBE was born with the idea of improving the virtual experience, making it even more immersive. And the goal, to which the device aims, is specified in its very name. OBE, in fact, is an acronym for Out of Body Experience. Machina’s device, which is not yet ready to be launched on the market, is designed to work with VR visors for smartphones, such as the Gear VR.
OBE features
OBE, thanks to the different sensors it houses, aims to provide a higher, let’s say deeper, level of virtual reality. Machine’s shirt has a total of four sensors, which operate as ports on which to add different modules to be used, then, during the virtual experience. The sensors are positioned mainly near three areas of the body: under the neck, chest and wrists. One of the most characterizing aspects of Machina’s device is the fact that it combines technology with people’s need for more discreet and less invasive systems to catapult them into virtual reality. In addition to the T-shirt, in fact, the sensors can be attached to an aesthetically pleasing jacket, launched by the startup in 2016.
Release date
As we said, Machina’s system is not yet ready. The company, however, seems to be close to unveiling the smart shirt, which, barring any surprises, will be launched on the market by the end of the year.
