Solid state drives are a great alternative to traditional hard drives for the storage of our computers, let’s see why we prefer SSDs
Until some time ago those who bought a computer had only one option regarding the internal memory, that is a hard disk drive (HDD). Since a couple of years, however, you can also choose a solid state drive (SSD), which provides better performance.
SSDs are a new generation of “hard drives”, more similar in some ways to USB pen drives than to traditional hard drives, since they write on flash memory and not on a real disk. For this reason, calling them a “new generation hard disk” is improper, because inside them there are cells and not a disk. SSDs since their release have always been praised by most people for their speed and reliability. But let’s see why you should choose an SSD over a hard drive.
Speed
As already mentioned SSDs are preferable to hard drives because they allow you to load a program much faster. All this greatly increases the performance of the device. This is especially noticeable during the startup phase. Computers that use hard disks take longer to load all the computer’s processes.
Multitasking
SSDs allow you to start several programs at once, without affecting the computer’s performance. Usually with a hard disk if you decide to start the antivirus scan and our favorite video game, you’ll have to wait a few minutes before the computer works at its best.
Computer battery
Computers that mount a solid state drive generally consume less battery power than those that have a classic hard drive. Also, not to be underestimated, their use overheats the device less, preventing damage and easy wear. Since the temperature is more stable, the battery will also work less. This results in a proper functioning of the cooling system and a longer life for the fans of our PC.
Resilient
SSDs, despite some criticisms, are very resistant storage systems. They have no mechanical parts that can break, and most importantly they are designed to withstand vibration. Aspect not to be taken underestimated if we use the laptop and continuously transport it with us on public transport, train or in our car.
For gamers
If we are video game lovers, or even professional gamers, SSDs are essential to make the loading of our favorite titles faster. Solid state drives, as mentioned, are ideal for those games with high requirements.
