New rumors on the account of MacBook Pros with M1X chip tell about the newfound support for SD cards but also about a “limited” amount of RAM.”
There has been a climate of expectation around the next generation of MacBook Pro with M1X chip that will debut by the end of the year, judging by the latest rumors on the subject.
The MacBook Pro with M1X chip should bring back the SD memory card reader, a very useful tool for those who use the Mac for work and have professions that require a frequent exchange of data, such as video makers or photographers. The last MacBook Pro with SD card support had arrived in 2015, then on subsequent generations professionals but also simple enthusiasts had to fall back on different systems often less convenient and fast than the SD card slot, such as transferring multimedia content via USB cable.
The return of SD cards on a MacBook Pro
Today’s rumor about the next MacBook Pro with M1X chip comes from youtuber Luke Miani, who doesn’t just insist on the presence of the SD card reader: according to the information in his possession, the new MacBook Pro will also have backlighting on the Touch ID button, unlocking via fingerprint recognition, but may not go beyond 32 GB of RAM, a quantity more than enough for many purposes but that instead for others could be limiting.
And if the presence of the SD card reader had already been proposed by other sources, according to Miani the real news will be represented by the UHS-II support for high-speed transfer, reaching in fact maximum speeds of 312 MB per second compared to about 100 MB per second of traditional SD cards. The youtuber commented on the rumor: “The support for UHS-II on the next MacBook Pro will be a very important news for photographers and video editors, categories that really need SD memory card slots! It was nice to hear from several rumors that the SD slot is making a comeback, but having UHS-II support as well is great news.”
Backlit Touch ID and RAM doubts
On the backlit front for the Touch ID button there aren’t many details, while again according to the youtuber the new MacBook Pros won’t be able to be configured with more than 32GB of RAM. The indiscretion clashes with the one distributed by Bloomberg some time ago, according to which the next MacBook Pro would also have a configuration with 64 GB of RAM, when the current MacBooks with M1 chip arrive at 16 GB.
In Miani’s past, points out 9to5mac, there are not only indiscretions that in hindsight turned out to be correct. So once again it’s important to remember how when it comes to rumors, rumors, and the like you should always take information with due skepticism.
