Netflix announces Blood Origin, prequel TV series to The Witcher

The 6-episode mini-series will tell the story of the birth of the first witcher and focus on the community of elves and monstrous creatures. Here are the details

Fans of The Witcher are definitely among the happiest these days: after the confirmation of a second season, Netflix also announces the production of a prequel, titled Blood Origin. Although we won’t see Geralt of Rivia again, we will be able to enjoy the fantasy settings and better understand the events of the main saga.

In fact, the Netflix TV series is only a part of the complex story born from the pen of Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. Based on the novels, CD Projekt RED has also made video games that follow the story of Geralt, even though they do not follow the books, and only last came the series that has been a huge success. In short, it is a flourishing period for this series and here is that the streaming platform takes the opportunity to launch another mini-series of six episodes.

The Witcher – Blood Origin: the possible plot

The TV series will tell the world we have come to know thanks to Geralt of Rivia (played in the TV series by Henry Cavill) focusing, however, about 1,200 years before his birth. It will talk in particular about the community of elves and will tell how their world was before the arrival of humans and especially before the Conjunction of the Spheres, a sort of magical catastrophe that trapped many fantastic creatures.

In this historical moment appeared also humans who invaded the world of the elves. The witchers are humans genetically modified to be able to fight and kill the evil monsters. The TV series will therefore take the opportunity to tell the story of the birth of these warriors and especially of the first witcher.

The Witcher – Blood Origin: production

The details were told by Declan de Barra, one of the creators of the new content coming to Netflix, who has already taken care of the main TV series. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, the showrunner of the first and second season (coming soon) of The Witcher will take care of the executive production.

The author of the famous novels will also have a central role, he will in fact be the creative consultant and will work to allow the production to follow in the footsteps of the first witcher and the fusion between the world of monsters, elves and humans. In short, once again Netflix has used the best professionals for the creation of the prequel. Sapkowski himself was very pleased with the project: “It’s exciting to see how this world, as it was originally designed, is expanding. I hope it will also bring more fans to the universe of my books.”

For now, there are no details on casting and release date, although it is known that the second cycle of The Witcher will start filming again in August in the UK.

Those who love fantasy but still haven’t seen the first season, can watch The Witcher now on Netflix in Italian. After all, in about a year’s time, the second season will arrive, which will reveal even more about the character of Geralt and the witcher community.
