Motion Stills, the Google app to create GIFs from videos

Developed by Google researchers, Motion Stills, after being launched on iOS, lands in the Play Store. It allows you to record 3-second clips

When it launched on iOS, most Android users turned their noses up at the idea of an app developed by Google researchers ending up on Apple’s market first. Now, about a year later, Motion Stills, a useful little program for creating GIFs from videos, has landed on the Play Store.

Mountain View’s digital store is full of similar apps, but Motion Stills isn’t just a simple software for making image loops. In fact, Big G’s app offers several features, most notably image stabilization. An advanced tool that’s hard to find in apps like this. The system allows you to record “still” videos, decreasing the annoying motion effect created by unwanted movement of the hand. Motion Stills, which you can download from the Android market, allows you to capture very short videos that you can turn into GIFs or share with your contacts.

How Motions Stills Works

Motion Stills is very easy to use. After downloading it from the Play Store, we launch it and start recording the 3-second video. Then, we can decide whether to create a GIF from the footage or just leave it as it is. And that’s not all. The app from Google researchers also provides a good level of customization. With Motion Stills, in fact, it’s also possible to add one clip to another. Just swipe to the right and you’re done. As mentioned above, all videos can be shared directly from the app with friends.

Motion Stills is however in the testing phase, so, as some users report, it’s not perfect yet. It undoubtedly remains a great app, especially considering the stabilization technology that Google researchers have incorporated into the program.
