Microsoft releases its antivirus for Android: how to install it

Microsoft makes available an antivirus for Android smartphones that can protect smartphones from hacker attacks

Smartphone malware now has a new enemy: Defender Advanced Threat Protection, the antivirus developed by Microsoft and present on thousands of computers. The Redmond-based company brings its computer security solution to mobile devices as well, after launching it for Windows, Linux and Mac operating systems. The application, however, is not available to all users, but only to customers who have purchased Defender Advanced Threat Protection (ATP), a platform mainly used in the enterprise environment.

The antivirus, in fact, is designed for enterprise Android smartphones, which are very often used by hackers as a gateway to infect enterprise servers. Defender Advanced Threat Protection integrates the classic protection systems of a mobile antivirus, but it also has advanced tools that can easily detect the presence of viruses or possible dangers for companies. The antivirus is already available for Android and should be coming soon to iOS.

What is Defender Advanced Threat Protection and how it works

Microsoft integrates a free antivirus within Windows 10: Windows Defender. There is also an enhanced version designed for businesses and large corporations: Defender Advances Threat Protection, which has extra features needed to keep corporate and employee data safe. Now Microsoft has decided to bring this security solution to smartphones as well, giving priority to Android.

Companies that have purchased Defender Advances Threat Protection now have the ability to use the app on mobile devices as well, so as to protect smartphones from viruses and malware. Cell phones are increasingly being targeted by hackers, who are greedy for the information that people exchange via smartphones every day.

It is no coincidence that more and more malicious apps are being discovered on the Google Play Store and trying to infect users’ devices. It is precisely on this point that Microsoft has developed an ad hoc tool capable of immediately recognizing dangerous apps and blocking their installation. But that’s not all. The Defender Advances Threat Protection app also warns when a site is dangerous or hiding a scam attempt.

The app is always connected to the central dashboard and if something abnormal is noticed, the company’s IT department is immediately alerted and the smartphone is reported as a “high risk” device. This solution will enable many companies to prevent dangerous hacker attacks.
