MediaTek’s Dimensity 2000 project is moving forward, and from China comes amazing news: the chip will be super powerful and equally attentive to consumption
Great power and low consumption. It is the main objective pursued by companies that produce electronic components, chips in particular, and it is also the dream of all enthusiasts. And if it’s impossible to reach the goal of a very powerful chip and at the same time super cheap, it’s possible to get close to it.
The Taiwanese designers of MediaTek have been able to do it, and in the last months they’ve been working on the project of a very high performance chip that could challenge on equal terms the most famous products of Qualcomm and Samsung, that respectively have been aiming at Snapdragon and Exynos for years with excellent results. That MediaTek tries is legitimate (it has the skills to make products of great quality) and is also desirable by fans, who thanks to competition could have better products, maybe even at lower prices. MediaTek has all the intention to challenge the “best” with the Dimensity 2000, and the premises for it to emerge victorious are all there.
MediaTek Dimensity 2000, the top low-power chip
They are convinced of it in China, where some sources claim that the Dimensity 2000 by MediaTek will be even more powerful than the Snapdragon 898 by Qualcomm, the same “big” that for years with the chips of the Snapdragon family dominates the top segment with the only “annoyance” of Samsung and, until some time ago, of Huawei.
And yet MediaTek after a few years of reduced activity is back in better shape than ever, and is ready to overtake Qualcomm not only in terms of sales – it has already done so – but also in pure performance. In fact, according to some sources, MediaTek’s Dimensity 2000 will be a good 20-25% faster than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 898. And that’s not all, because it will also consume “much less”, the well-informed report.
Turning the tables, according to those who know how the development of the two competitors proceeds, the MediaTek Dimensity 2000 will be appreciably more suitable than its American counterpart to take on important workloads – typically video processing or heavy games – in the face of lower average consumption.
Qualcomm could lose customers
If things were really like this, then it’s not hard to imagine that several companies that have so far turned to Qualcomm could take the plunge and turn to MediaTek for new products, certifying once again the Taiwanese company’s incredible growth in an all-too-short period of time.
To achieve such remarkable results, MediaTek would adopt the ARM v9 architecture with a very powerful X2 core, and the CPU (i.e. the computing unit) will have a maximum frequency at least equal to that of Snapdragon 898, if not higher. Part of the credit will come from the GPU (the graphics processing unit), whose level is described as higher than that of the current Snapdragon 888 and more attentive to power consumption.
These features have been talked about for months now, and although time passes and sources change, the Dimensity 2000 is always described in the same way, which is another element that in waiting to see the new Taiwanese chip plays in favor of performance and power consumption reference for the industry.
