IPad Pro 2018 seems fragile: in tests it breaks in two

During an endurance test, the Apple tablet shows some structural problems. The situation, however, may not be as worrisome as it seems

That the size and weight were two of its strengths has long been known. However, that they could also turn into the worst nightmare of Apple’s planners and designers few had taken into account. The iPad Pro 2018, unveiled with great fanfare in early November, seems to be suffering from a serious structural problem.

During some endurance tests conducted by a well-known youtuber – JerryRigEverything – used to put smartphones and other electronic devices to the test, the iPad Pro 2018 gave immediate signs of failure. The tablet for professionals went under several instruments of “torture”: from box cutters to screwdrivers, passing by lighter and other sharp tools. Tools that, unlike what you might think, immediately left their marks on the glass and on the back of the device, made of aluminum. JerryRigEverything even managed to draw Spider-Man’s face, etching it with the tip of a simple box cutter.

The 2018 iPad Pro bends… and breaks

But that’s not the most worrying aspect from a construction standpoint for those who have already purchased the 2018 iPad Pro. During the review of the Apple tablet, the author of the tests had pointed out that the microphones placed on the sides of the iPad could be a weak point from a structural and constructive point of view. And so it was. As soon as JerryRigEverything tries to bend the device with his hands, the metal shell bends, the glass begins to crack and the display stops working. In a matter of moments, the 2018 iPad Pro bends until it breaks, showing unsuspected malleability, at least to the naked eye.

Apple is not new to such events – who doesn’t remember the so-called iPhone 6 bendgate? –

But in this case the situation is not so serious as it could appear at a first glance. In fact, it’s likely that the same fragility shown by the 2018 iPad Pro is also common to other increasingly common and increasingly thin mid-sized tablets.
