Instagram: now we can insert links in the stories

The links in the Stories Instagram are now for everyone: the world’s most popular social photo, here’s how it works

Extended finally to all the ability to share links through the Stories of Instagram, a social tool owned by Facebook much used by both the younger and older audience. A sudden news that Instagram has put on paper in recent hours with an official communication.

So from now on – or almost, it will take a little ‘so that the new feature reaches everyone – anyone can “attach” links to the Stories, even accounts that have never been able to do so. For years and until “yesterday” in fact, the possibility was a prerogative of profiles with a very high number of followers, about 10 thousand, with the result that the so-called influencers could share links to offers or goods of any kind while the accounts of “normal” users could not do so. It will no longer be like that: the new Link stickers, tested by Instagram since June in place of the classic swipe up, are now available to everyone.

Instagram will remove the links to those who will use them “wrong”

The news is positive for users, it is less so for the reviewers appointed by Instagram whose task is to keep the social a safe place and able to convey positive messages. In fact, Instagram has made it clear that it will disable the new feature to all those accounts that will use it to spread fake news, make misinformation or incite hatred.

In short, it is expected to be an additional workload for the social, and perhaps this was the reason why the ability to share a link through the Stories had not been extended before to the entire public: to verify what is shared by “a few” enabled accounts is one thing, it is totally another to start controls on the millions of profiles that populate the platform.

To add a link to the Stories of Instagram just choose the appropriate Link sticker, type the address that you intend to share and place it anywhere you want as if it were any other element to enrich the Stories.

“Links, now, will benefit everyone”

The communication, as mentioned, came directly from Instagram that has made it public through a post on the official blog. Here are the words of the social giant controlled by Facebook:

“We know how important it is for our community to be able to share what they care about, and this new feature can be used by creators to make their voices heard in support of important issues such as equality and social justice. For businesses, it could be a way to share new offerings with customers, or for artists, it could be a way to get their work out there.”

The link requirement for select accounts only has been dropped: “When we first introduced Link sharing in Stories, the feature was only available to select accounts. We noticed that this feature could, however, be useful for accounts of all sizes and types, so we decided to expand access to the Links in Stories sticker to everyone.”
