The phenomenon of spam messages in Instagram Groups is rampant: here’s how to block unwanted requests
More and more users report receiving invitations in Instagram Groups from contacts they don’t know. These are spam messages, often sent by fake accounts or bots, which can be easily blocked by users who frequent the Facebook-owned social network.
The phenomenon of spam messages in Instagram Groups started about a couple of years ago, but in the last period it has intensified again. Opening the Direct messages of your Instagram account in the Requests section it is easy to find invitations to join a new group, where the contacts are strangers and often fake accounts. Often in the group you will find a link and you are invited to click on it, but it will be good not to do so: it could redirect to spam sites or online scams. For those who find these messages, the advice is to block them and change the settings of your profile to increase security: here are the procedures to follow step by step.
Spam messages on Instagram: how to leave the group
To check for spam messages sent to your Instagram account, you must open the app, tap on the top right of the Direct messages icon and then select the item on the right Requests. This will open the new Message Requests screen where there might be invitations to Groups.
Tap on the request to open the conversation and if it is spam, you can tap on the Abandon or Ignore voices. The Group request will then be rejected and the user will not join the Group. If all the requests are spam, you will be able to tap on Delete All on the main Request for Messages screen.
How to Block Group Request Notifications on Instagram
To avoid receiving Group Request notifications from unknown contacts, Instagram provides for changing the settings. Users will have to open the app, tap on the profile in the bottom right corner and then the three lines in the top right corner and in the menu that opens select the bottom item Settings.
A new screen will open in which to follow the path Notifications > Direct messages > Group requests and check the box No. This way, spam messages may still arrive, but they won’t be notified and will remain among Message Requests.
How to block adding in Instagram Groups
To fix the problem permanently, users can change the privacy settings of the Instagram app. After opening the app, go to the profile, tap on the three lines in the top right corner and then at the bottom on Settings > Privacy > Messages.
In the Messages Commands screen, in the section Allow others to add you to groups you will have to make sure the checkbox is not checked on Everyone but on Only people you follow. Checking the second option will allow the user to be added to groups only by those they follow.
