During the late evening of Wednesday, December 12, Instagram is not working. The reasons for the blackout, at least in the first hour, are however unknown
From about 21:30 today, December 12, Instagram is not working and, therefore, you can no longer update your profile, upload new photos and new Stories or comment on those of users you follow. In the space of a few minutes, in fact, hundreds and hundreds of reports have been collected, both on industry portals such as Down Detector and on other social networks such as Twitter.
According to user comments, the problems would seem to concern mainly the web portal. The users, in fact, would not be able to login and would be “locked out” of their own profile. Those who are already inside, however, do not seem to have any problem. A malfunction that reminds the one of a few days ago of Facebook, when users had problems to access despite entering the exact credentials. On that occasion the situation returned to normal within a few tens of minutes; today Instagram has been down for about an hour and the reports that Instagram does not go continue to rise exponentially.

All the information available at the time were provided directly by users, through their reports on industry sites. In particular, as already mentioned, the biggest problems are reported at log in, with users unable to access their own profile. It’s possible that this malfunction is caused by the cleaning activity that Instagram has been carrying out for several weeks now and that has already led to the deletion of millions of fake profiles and bots, created with the sole purpose of increasing the numbers of influencers or presumed such.
If so, then, it is not a real malfunction of the platform, but a maintenance operation planned but not announced. Probable, therefore, that Instagram down is intended to return shortly.
