After the Huawei P50s were pushed back to September, the struggling Chinese company has reportedly decided to do without the Huawei Mate 50.
Since being handed a trade ban by the US in 2019, Huawei doesn’t seem to have had one go its way. The company has held out as long as it could, greatly increasing the pace of work to develop its own alternative operating system to Android, HarmonyOS, which we’ve talked about in depth, but in recent times it has had to surrender to the impossible environment in which it moves.
Never Huawei could have imagined that the calamity of the US ban would have been followed by another one, much more serious: the Covid-19 pandemic, which has literally brought many companies to their knees because of the global shortage of chips, let alone Huawei that had to take into account the impossibility to use American chips or chips that made use of American technology. So first Huawei P50, which has been presented for generations in the first part of the years, disappeared from the radar and it seems that it will not be made official until September, then, now, some rumors that 2021 will be the first year in which no Mate will arrive. The Huawei Mate 50 so, according to rumors, will not even be made. Fans of the brand, therefore, will have no choice but to look for a Huawei Mate 40 (released in October 2020, the model in the photo).
All “fault” of the Huawei P50
After all, even if we want to overlook for a moment the difficulties in finding chips and electronic components, if Huawei P50 will be presented in September as rumored it would end up overshadowing Huawei Mate 50, which usually arrives between late October and the first half of November.
In short, even if Huawei didn’t have the difficulties it has, the delay of Huawei P50 would most likely result in the cancellation of the Huawei Mate 50 project anyway, because there wouldn’t be enough time for a gap between the two announcements to not cannibalize sales of the two products.
In fact, usually more than six months pass between the first top of the year, the Huawei “P” line, and the second, the Mate, so that we can maximize the benefits of having a range of products that are always up-to-date and equipped with the latest technology. With the Huawei P50 presented in September and the Huawei Mate 50 to be presented by the end of the year, the gap would be too short, and the two products would end up dividing customers.
The position of Huawei
However, Huawei has preferred not to comment on the rumor, and so at the moment there is no official statement to support a delay or abandonment for the Huawei Mate 50 range, nor about the ordeal of the Huawei P50.
There is therefore nothing left to do but wait patiently for the next moves by the Chinese company, in the hope that it will be able to find the square to get out unscathed as soon as possible from an objectively complex context to return to stimulate, with the quality of its smartphones, innovation in the competition.
